Did an impromptu camping trip in Pemberton this weekend, with a day hike up to Wedgemount Lake. I hadn't been up before, and it's always extra special when you go into an area for the first time, so I'm glad we picked an amazing day for it! Hope you enjoy the photos, and apologies in advance for the novel.
~12km and 1200m, the ascent took us aprox. 3:30 and descent 1:40.
The trail was deceptively flat at first, but soon steepened and remained that way for most of the hike. The views weren't great in the lower part as you're in the trees, but there were occasionally gaps with some cool peaks and waterfalls.

Also a few rock slides. How often do these come down again...

The snow started appearing in patches maybe half way up. It was hard packed and easy going as far as snow is. Seeing light through the trees we thought we were there, but quickly realized there was one final ascent. The steepest part yet, and covered in snow - great. Here the sun had softened the snow and it was a battle to the top.

But was it ever worth it! We stopped for a breather before descending past the shelter to the lake.

Here I found a big flat rock extending into the water, where I had lunch, did a little alpine tanning, and took in my surroundings.

My friends decided to brave the water and go for a dip.

There was one person headed up towards the glacier, and a group of four part way up. This was between 4pm and 5pm - anyone from ct?

I did some exploring and made my way up the slope on the north side of the lake, which made for an epic panorama and some sweet boot skiing.

Always enjoy splashes of colour in what can be a cold landscape.

Time flew by and it was soon time to head back down, but not before a group shot. What better way to spend a weekend with friends.

That's what I said when I looked over and saw them . I think they must have been cold blooded animals in a former life. |
