Just wondering if someone could update the access conditions for the summer trail to Brew Lake. Also I am interested where I can find the winter route.i.e. road, trail marker etc.

Really appreciate any input ..

Thanks,

K

I did about half of the summer trail last July, just scouting for a future hike. It's well marked on the lower bit, we did not go past the clearcut. It's easy to find the trailhead off the railway. I'd like to go up when more snow melts.

Thanks Otto.

After about six years since my last visit; I was not sure if this trail had been kept up or was visible...

I was there late September last year. We went via the railroad (got a ticket for parking in the Brandywine lot, didn't see any No Overnight Parking signs, but FYI), but I think there may be better access via a new-ish logging road that might save you the railway slog (though the latter lets you re-enact scenes from Stand By Me). Trail is well marked through the forest and clearcuts, and then through boulders where the route is fairly obvious at first, then less so, with progressively less significant cairns marking the way. I imagine there will be tons of snow up top still, as per everywhere, so might need a bit of routefinding. When heavy clouds moved in we were glad to have a compass and map. cheers!

Thanks PW

**Wonder what time you have be out of the Brandywine lot, in order to avoid the ticket.

Did the summer route in 2010, so I can comment the summer trial is nice and easy to follow, but obviously can't comment about current snow level.

As for parking, there is a large area just south (east side of the highway) of the bridge over the railway tracks (i.e. right where you have to start hiking along the tracks) where we parked. While we were only there for the day, there didn't seem to be any prohibitions against parking there overnight (there were in the Brandywine lot as it's pay).

Really appreciat that, thank you.

I was with Lyda several years ago on that trail. But your latest report makes it sound this trail has been improved.

This coming Sunday will be hot, so a hike under the forest might be the fun thing.

If anyone is worried about overnight parking at Brandywine, an alternative is to park on Retta Lake Rd. (the entrance to Black Tusk Village and Pinecrest). The are several ways to access the railway through the subdivision and walk ~1.5K north to the trail.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

We are going via the winter route tomorrow morning.
