Good score! Permission to throw the first punch on the "lighting fires in the alpine" fight?

Very nice pictures! Aside from a historical perspective, I think they would look nice framed and on a wall.

These could be of good historical value to track the retreat of glaciers and the reality of climate warming.

Very nostalgic. Crowds weren't a problem in those days.

Very few crowds. Apparently, this was when the trailhead was inside Squamish. That would add a few Km's to the hike to the shelter...

Next time I see my inlaws I plan to ask more questions and get more pics.

Thanks for posting the pics.

Only been a few years since the lodge was removed, guess the history of the area might become lost, too.

I wonder if they ever used snowshoes to get there back then

Very cool!

I adjusted the photo for fun, but the original faded image has character.

Wonderful!!! Thanks so much for sharing instead of letting these sit in a basement somewhere for nobody to see. Got any more? Of Vancouver, Squamish, various local hikes?

I found this postcard in a collectibles shop, of some hikers in Garibaldi Park. I don't know who these people were, and I think the caption that states it's "Mount Garibaldi" is probably incorrect, but it's still a bit of history:

Come to think of it, when I was at summer camp in the late 70's, when I was 12, they took us on our first overnighter to Elfin Lakes, and I recall that each of us had to light a small fire in the campground area to get our billy cans boiling. And we were told it was just fine to drink from the mountain streams (ie no talk of boiling, filtering or treating) as it was "fresh mountain water, doesn't get any cleaner than this." I did not take one single picture on that trip, though; too bad!

So what peak are they on? Surely someone here would know.

Diamond Head - pretty interesting how Squamish has changed since then.

I think they're actually on a north summit of Columnar Peak- probably walked up to the Saddle, then turned left to the bump on the west side of the Saddle.
