Just went for a typical ramble in North Van. Parked at the top of skyline road. Took the powerline trail down the hill, cut into the bushes onto the Simic Trail? and then after a while ended up on the Baden Powell trail. Then took the Larsen trail up to the old Cabin site, and then connected to the BCMC trail and ended up on the "cut ski" hill. There are only a couple of patches of snow on it.

As I was with my dog, I avoided the Grouse Chalet extravaganza's, and we took the service road and headed over to the Grouse Mountain highway to connect and descend on Fromme. We saw 2 black bears grazing near the bottom east side of the grouse ski area. Upper Fromme around the GMH still has deep snow, whereas the same elevation on Grouse has no snow. We then took the Per Gynt trail until it hit the GMH again. At this point I hear a police siren briefly. We pulled off to the side of the trail as a police SUV with flashing lights drove up the road. We then descended on "the executioner" and then the old water towers trail (currently closed as per a sign at the bottom), crossing the large bridge over mosquito creek, then climbing briefly on the Baden Powell trail before descending the very top of the Skyline road back to the truck. In the gravel road that off-shoots skyline road just above the gate (that's usually closed) were 2 police cars (one appeared to be the SUV I had seen racing up the GMH). They were there with 3 cars of young guys, I don't know what happened.

I also saw numerous helicopters heading up towards Grouse, something went down today?

The stats for this hike, 11 kms, 4 hours, elevations ranging from 250m to 950m. Used 2 excellent hiking sticks, sticks or poles are a must on these mountains for descending.

4 years ago I got a dog and started walking the powerline trails up there. What started as 20 minute walks got longer and longer as we explored more and more trails. 4-6 hour hikes became the norm and eventually we pretty much cleaned out every hiking and mountain biking trail on Grouse/Fromme. I'm sure there's a few hidden gems somewhere, but whenever I've reached a fork in the trail, I've pretty much always taken the trail I've never travelled. Leads to some long adventures, and whenever you think you've seen every bridge or waterfall, you find another spot of near limitless solitude so near home. Good times.

Guess you have heard by now. Sadly a body of a male found by hikers. Looks like a fall into a rock crevice and perhaps the body has been there for a while? So sad.

Okay thanks, I guess the young men with the police must've been the ones that found him, although it was odd that they were all parked up above the gate.
