| As a narrative,it did seem defensive,Spidergirl.I have to say that it seems to me that Krakauer found it easy to imply that Boukreev was at fault, perhaps because he knew that his editor at Outside magazine wasn't going to give Boukreev equal opportunity to defend himself.Of course, many things happened up there, and all between people who were not functioning under ideal decision making conditions. It was an example of how lapses in judgement can magnify in dangerous situations. Ultimately,Mother Nature decides our fate more than we often care to admit. It's a question of basic survival, and since I've never attempted such an expedition, that'd be a guess on my part.... |
