Lead us to the summit, Katie. : )

This is the bad part of bringing a bike...more of a hinderance going up.

Pretty little lake, and some blue sky teasing us.

Here she comes... : )

The trees were opening up, but the skies were closing in.

Our first view of our objective.

She's a little worried about all the thick clouds rolling in and out, as was I.

Things are getting steep.

Katie running down that steep slope...

...and Katie putting the brakes on. : )

The view of our objective has disappeared. Don't like that happening on a new hike and above the trees.

Ah, that's a bit better. At least we can see it now. : )

A look behind us. Perhaps we'll give that peak a try to, time permitting.

I decided to leave the crampons at home. While it was nice to have such a light pack, I did wish I had brought them. Kicking steps was hard work. Must have been clear skies overnight here, as the snow was quite hard.

Katie scrambling up a short and steep section.

There was one more short and steep scrambly part to the summit, of which she waited for me. She was whining a bit, not exactly sure she was going to get herself up that part. I went up, she went right, and in a split second I could hear her bell up above me...there she is on the summit of Mt. Windsor! : )

Looking down.

My attempts at a self-timer summit shot. It being such a small summit, I gave up after 2 tries.

She doesn't look too impressed with 'no view' situation going on up here.

That's much better! : )

Some blue sky popping up over by Deeks Peak. Took us 4 hours from the car to summit, so we head down with lots of time to hit Deeks. : )

I just took a very fast and rough butt slide from up there to where I am standing. A first for me. Bad idea to wear flimsy sport shorts when doing this...had to pry them from my a#s after that.

I was, once again, having some issues with my inner thighs painfully cramping up on the way down from the summit to the col. I took some time to stretch, eat/drink some more, and Katie grows impatient. Here she is making a 'nest' while she waits. : )

I decide against making an attempt at Deeks. Why knock myself out with these cramps, for what will likely be a fogged in summit.

Deeks Lake on the way down.

Deeks Creek in a hurry to reach Howe Sound.

That sun sure felt good! : )

A busy trail on the way down from the lake. A lot of "hi's", "hello's" and "how much further to the lake?" on the way down. : )

Trailhead signs. Difficult to get lost on this one.

Bike is still there, and intact. : )

What is your hurry, Katie!? ; )

The end. : )

Stats:
Car to car: 7:15
Cumulative elevation gain: 1644m

Congratulations; told you she was not an average dog!
That's pretty good time, even with the bike. Too bad weather was not clear. Reason more to come back for Deeks

Great shot of Katie coming down the steep slope and then putting on the brakes.

Looks like not a whole lot of snow to Deeks Lakes but a ton of it past the lake. Thanks for the report. Deeks Lake will probably remain on my agenda for a hike in the next couple of weeks.

Nice one John & Katie. I'd rather hike then ride a bike on rocks like that

You'll have to return when you can see, Windsor affords some decent views.

We were on Brunswick and Harvey today but clouds obscured Windsor most of the time while on Brunswick. If you listened very closely you might have heard me yodelling.

John: In your opinion was the bike worth pushing up?

I was going to do the same trip on the same day but couldn't decide whether to hike or bike the logging road.

I was wondering whether bike was safe. Same question, would it have been the same effort walking up and down compared to biking it up and down.

Always awesome action shots of Katie (and that fella who's with her as well)

Thanks for the TR - was wondering what the conditions (snow and bugs) are up there.

Good going into one of my old time favourite areas.

Looks like you both had fun.

You should try and get back when the views are there.

One thing about that whole area through the HSCT is the lack of bugs when other places are full of them so it makes for great summer hikes where other places are swarming in bugs at that time of year.

I think Katie may have. ; )

Yes, I would say the bike was worth pushing up (took me an hour). Very little opportunity to pedal on the way up, so it is a grunt, but I was thankful coming down (took 15-20 min.). I ride the brakes and descend slowly, so as to not make Katie run too hard on those sharp rocks.
I forgot to mention that the gate was closed, but those with 4wdr are easily going around the gate.

Ya, I forgot to mention that too...no bugs whatsoever. : )

Thanks again everyone. : )

It amazes me how Katie looks out into the distance like a person would when she's on top. Wish I knew where all the bug-free hideouts were.

Probably a hunting dog thing...always on the lookout for anything that moves.

It was. We really enjoyed this one, despite the clouds/fog.
Re. the temperature, yes, something else I forgot to mention. No wind at all, and rather balmy on the summit. : )

Just a quick addition. Managed to drive around the gate no problem with an awd small SUV. Parking out of sight of the main parking lot gave me a little piece of mind.

First time I've brought a bike on this trail and I would suggest it as well. During the push up I thought about ditching it a few times but was very glad I had pushed it up once I got to ride down....what a blast.

Only saw one person all day and that was near the bottom. Nobody at Deeks Lake or on the trail. Wish I could hike more weekdays.
