im planning a two day - one night trip into and out of the stein valley from lytton. hopefully make it to cottonwood campsite saturday night and then back to the car at the lytton parking lot sunday night. this is a good hike for staying out of the snow.
the weather on theweathernetwork.com looks good for lytton, not so good for vancouver.
i am carless but will get a car from a car co-op.
if you'd like to join me let me know. Im not a fast hiker so this flat hike will suit me. |

From two weeks ago: the water level is quite high. We had to climb around some water to get to the pictographs; shared Earls Cabin campsite with a few Wanderung hikers. There were some interesting birds (tanager, woodpecker). Many of the creeks are swollen. Snake bluffs is quite overgrown in places - watch your footing if you're carrying a full pack. Happy trails!

| We went last weekend just for a night. We saw nobody else until hiking out next day. The river was so loud, we had to yell at top of lungs to hear if we weren't right next to each other. The ferry guy warned that we may have to drive out next day due to high water, but we got lucky I guess. He showed us the high water spot on a telephone pole. Hard to imagine the water going so high from where we were sitting! Have fun..wish we could join you!! |

Lytton ferry may be closed this weekend as posted on www.lyttonferry.com. The Fraser River above Texas Creek seems to be above 6 meters now and the ferry does not usually run when the river is above that.
The Lytton Ferry is usually operational when the river stage at Texas Creek is less than 6.0m. When river stage is higher than this the ferry is normally closed, although this is only approximate. Sometimes there is considerable debris in the river and there will be temporary closures to avoid the hazard of logs hitting the ferry pontoons. These closures are usually after dark. Note that there is a time lag of at least two hours with this data from this station.
2012-05-28 Notice from VSA - Highway Maintenance: Due to rising water, it is expected that the Lytton Ferry will go out of service within the next few days. Of course there is no way to determine the exact date and time of the Ferry closure; VSA would like you to know that it will likely be any day now. Thank you, Janet Moore, VSA Hwy Maintenance (250) 315-0166
You may want to check the website before leaving.
Cheers! |

It's rising quickly enough that you might get over and then not get back, actually! The drive down the west side from Lillooet is worthwhile. You can get out for a view and have a cactus adopt you. |

It is a long drive down the west side from Lillooet. Very pretty, spectacular even, entirely feasible in almost any vehicle that is in the least dirt-road friendly, 2WD is fine, but it is narrow, very twisty with plenty of blind corners so caution is warranted and it will take you longer than you think.
Starts as Texas Creek road from Lillooet, (not to be confused with the Texas Creek FSR which heads up Texas Creek), then continues as I-don't-know-what-the-name-is road. |
