Stood on top on Saturday, May 26, 2012. Great weather, good glacier conditions, poor conditions on the face. In a previous thread of mine about preparations, someone referred to this peak as a "walk up." They must have had very different conditions than we did, as we did no "walking" past 3300M save for the last steps to the summit.

The summit views are breathtaking.

Just got home, so you'll have to wait for the pics and full trip report. It's coming.

I have a couple secs, so a brief synopsis:

Thursday: Ski to high camp on near side of trench. Situation normal: white out navigation most of the way

Thursday night: howling wind and snow. Camp pit fills 1/2 way up, tent is bomber place to stay out of the weather!

Friday morning: Poor weather, some discussion about going anyway. Rest is good, so we run the stove all day and watch the baro pressure rising, our weather optimism with it.

Friday evening: weather improving dramatically.

Saturday morning: -19C and clear.

Saturday 4:05pm, summit. Snow conditions on the face difficult, so four hours of nearly continuous kicking steps. Slabs, weak bridges mean traverses, etc.

Saturday night: Sleep back at high camp

Sunday: Ski to the car. Corn snow on the icefalls is nice.

Quite the assault what with waiting it out at base camp and all.

Nice one! Sounds like a full on assault. Can`t wait for the full TR. Mt. Columbia is a serious mountain. Don`t let anyone tell you otherwise. It certainly isn`t a "walk up".

Glad you had clear weather on your summit day.

Cheers,
