On a whim I put out a post to entice joiners for what would be another perfect trip...

Wayne, Wayfaring Stranger and Teddy Bears quickly expressed interest...so we would be a group of 5.

We met at the vedder bridge parkinglot at 6:30am, parked at 1000m on the access road and were hiking by 7:30am.

The walk up again was easy and with the route fresh in my mind from the thursday night hike we had things in our favor.

It wasn't long before we found ourselves in the cutblock at the summer parkinglot from which we could now see our planned route up onto the start of the ridge. This was usually a boulder field in the summer but it was filled in smoothly with snow which made the ascent quick...short steep section of about 20m. We were able to kick steps easily and avoided one melthole.

Now that we were on the "flatter" part of the main ridge...hahaha...I started encouraging Wayne to strap the skis on. It wasn't until we started heading down into the bowl below McGuire that he put them on and flew past us and disappeared behind some rolling snow covered hills below.

What a perfect day.
We all dug our heels in and made our way down and across to the proper summit side of the mountain...crossing a couple small avalanche fields probably caused from a tired cornice.

In the final push for the top we were rewarded with a rocky finish with the sun beating down on us. It was now 12:30pm. (5hrs up)

We all soaked the views in and congratulated ourselves having made it to the spectacular halfway point...or as I like to call it..The best picnic spot in the valley.Half an hour later, we had snapped enough photos, eaten our fair share of snacks and assembled our kit for the return.

The journey back seemed effortless for Wayne who zipped down almost all the way back to the truck, minus a couple steep spots...(one up)(one down)

***NEW*** Here's a really short video of Wayne On Skis..

http://youtu.be/7IgkAupyVLQ

Made it back to the vehicle at around 3:30pm which makes it an 8hr return hike with the current conditions.

It was really nice meeting Teddy Bears and Wayfaring Stranger today...great people, great scenery, perfect conditions, perfect day!

Cheers,
Kelly

Kelly..

Awesome job, and well done. Happy to know you guys got this accomplished since I will be repeating this trip next weekend (June 3). We headed up Mt. Borden and could see your tracks cut across the lower slopes of McGuire from the Ridge.

Here is a zoom shot of McGuire, plus a cropped image to show the tracks. I was puzzled when I saw what appeared to be skii tracks. Your TR shows one of you had skiis..

Good going everyone! Why did you call it the spectacular half way point? I can't tell for sure because of the snow but it looks like McGuire proper to me.

I was hoping when I got to work I would be laidoff right away so I could maybe make this, but I had to stay and pretend to work the whole day.

Looks like a great trip, I think I will have to try and join for Karls trip next weekend.

It's pretty common for a summit to be referred to as the half way point. Nice job guys.
