Looks like fun. We had fresh pow on Wednesday above 1400 m on the Pemby Icecap.

That is great, it must have snowed at Duffey since I was there on May 19. The NW looks quite different. And the Lakes must have refroze a bit too since there was no way I could ski across the middle one and chose not cross the Upper Lk since I was by myself.

Same places, new experiences :)

not sure you'll pick up a JUNO for the modified version of 'God Save The Queen' but you got balls grunting up there on slopes like that. Nice Post

Awesome.
Maybe it's time to swap out the avy gear for life jackets?

That was pretty much not recommended.

I am quite jealous!!! I was there yesterday. Your tracks were frozen solid in the snow.
The NW face was very very hard, and my legs are still shaking from the vibrations. It is
the time when you kind of regret that you sharpen your skis only once a year :)
Oh well! The bergschrund is opened, but it is easy to find a good spot to go over it.

What time did you go down? For me, it was 10H30AM. Probably too early, I might have to
have waited a bit more. But I had further plans for the day.

Snow melts real fast. There was no snow on either side of the log bridge at all when
I passed it.

Cheers

We tried to time it for around 12 to 1pm based on experience that its usually icey till then. I think we dropped in around 12.30 - 1 but we lounged around the top quite a bit taking in the view which is quite magnifique.

Like in the link we had thought about alternatives if the NW face was icy - the S slope off Hartzell, or Spetch or Stonecrop face but with the sudden warming in the afternoon it seemed prudent to get out sooner rather than later.

Good to know! Yes, the view is incredible from there. We were coming from SE ridge, i.e.,
from Howard.

I also skied this we East face of Hartzell, and Twin One glacier. Horrible, but from
the other side of the spectrum. Way too soft and warm, was sliding all over the place.
Actually, quite a bit scary, especially Twin One glacier

yah I looked at the E face of Matier which is how I've accessed Twin One in the past and it had a good liberal coating of rime.

FYI Twin One is a bit more E facing. There are three branches - the N-most branch is E facing and is good skiing till early April then it gets too much sun. The central branch is ENE and good till mid April or so. The right branch I haven't touched yet but is a bit more NNE so might be better later but it's pretty horribly crevassed.

agreed the SE ridge approach is more direct -- good choice

Tried watching that video but it took a long time in fits and starts to download. Was wondering if that's just my computer and Internet connection (Telus "high-speed")?
