Taken in the Tunkwa Lake area. Seeing and photographing the great grey owl was the highlight of the trip. It's almost the size of a bald eagle. If you are into birding, this is a great area to visit and many of the bird species are not seen on the coast. Once you get off the quad trails there is great hiking, though few opportunities for views once you leave the lake. I went for the photography and carried about 15 lbs of photo equipment, so hikes were short anyway.

Sparrow
Yellow Headed Blackbird
Killdeer
Great Grey Owl

Taken at Poteau Cove on the way back from the interior.

The vulture was drying its wings after a wet flight. The goose shot was taken with a Sigma 10-20 mm superwide angle zoom lens - great for landscapes, with a few opportunities for more easily approched wildlife. These birds had obviously been fed by campers, as they kept following me. They look like they're 30 feet away but they're only about 10 feet away. I used live view and held the camera within a few inches of the ground. At f11 and 10mm, everything from inches to km is in focus.

Wow, stunning birds, and some of those you just don't see around the lower mainland! Although it sure caught me by surprise that turkey vultures can be found around here-one was brought into the wildlife rescue one morning, startling when yer not expecting it

Thanks. The Turkey Vulture pose struck me as a possible influence on common totem pole theme. The only other birds that I've seen do that to dry their wings are cormerants.
