Hey There,
Looking for the best and relatively flattest area for setting up six or seven tents? Either peak 2 or 3 will do. Hoping to enjoy an evening up there under the stars with friends. Any help with this is much appreciated.

Offhand I think there would be some decent spots along the way from 2nd to 3rd that would be flat, close enough to the edge that you'd have some great views, and are enough off the trail wouldn't be tripped over.

| Absolutely the 2nd peak! Great place to camp- flat, great view, not as busy as the 1st peak. |

Aargh- maybe you're not even allowed to camp for free on top?
Next they'll be rappelling down the walls collecting fees from climbers using porta-ledges. And fining them for not using proper toilets. |

| Does that include both the upper and lower parking lot's where overnight parking is not permitted? May have to park on the roadside possibly? |

| They dont enforce that, but you can always park at the campground or across the street at the malemute parking. |

My favourite story about camping on the Chief involved two guys who did so- and thought it would be funny to flash SOS messages with their flashlights down to Valleycliffe. After a while, several residents phoned the RCMP to report this, who then contacted Search and Rescue. Soon, everyone was gathered in Valleycliffe looking up- and sure enough, there was another SOS (three dots, three dashes, three dots). At that point, the policeman in attendance turned his police lights and siren on- and the guys at the top promptly responded with another SOS. At that point, everyone agreed it was time to act.
Anyway, in those days, we had a bold pilot who wasn't hesitant about flying at night, so we drove to the airport, loaded up and flew up, landing on the 2nd Peak. We then walked over to where the lights were- and surprised our two flashlight-happy campers, now very embarrassed that their little prank had taken a more serious turn. They readily 'fessed up, claiming they were just having fun, never figuring that anyone would seriously respond and fly up.
They were going to be charged with public mischief, and handed the bill for the helicopter, but I'm not sure what ultimately happened. |

don’t know about if you are allowed to camp up there but I would not worry I just know that I was emailing Sea to sky parks that runs all those parks up there and they said no overnight parking is allowed in any day use provincial park. I have no idea if they enforce or not but personally I am not going to find out. |

| there is campsites at the cheif trailhead so surelly there is overnight parking somewhere there. weither you can camp on top is another matter. but I doubt anyone will find you. just don't sleep in as I bet dayhikers start early |

| By parking at the campground I presume you mean the upper parking lot on the right? The Malmute parking lot eh. Don't recall seeing anything on the other side. Not that I was ever looking for one. Is it directly opposite or slightly up or down the hill? Any idea if that's pay parking? |

| Malemute parking is just north of the blue foot bridge on the water side of the highway. No its not pay parking. I would Just park at the campground site, im sure you can find a spot and figure it out. |

Yeah I can't see why you couldn't park at the campground. That would only make sense.
Looking forward to spending the night up above under the stars with friends before that great big eye-sore is firmly entrenched to the Chief later on it appears. Money talks I guess. |
