I was determined to avoid getting sloshed around in the lower mainland weather system so Mark and I took a drive up north to explore a new area hoping it would be dryer and higher.
We set out from chilliwack at 4am with our sights set on BIG Dog Mountain in the Shulaps Range north of Carpenter Lake.

Here's some shots along the way..

...and we arrived at our trailhead at 10:30am after investigating a few spurs that we thought might be the correct access.

Found it.Here's our route in.

In this picture you can see our destination is all the way up the valley with our objective just above the road.

At this point we were finally getting into the bottom of where we would start our ascent up to Big Dog after the bowl and as I looked at my watch we were already at 2178m (back home this would be a summit and we were still at the bottom here.Nice.

Just above Mark you can see the start of Big Dog...we eventually caught the ridge just to the left heading up there...right of the col.

Here's the start of our climb up.

Mark on the top of our no name 8550ft'er...we ran out of time at this point but we were on the connection ridge to BIG dog.

Climbing down...you can see the valley we walked up in the center..guess it will be a long walk out to the truck.

We arrived back in Chilliwack at 11pm or so with the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction having found another remote/great area for future exploration.

Thanks Mark for partaking in the big drive to explore some remote place on a map. Glad everything worked out so well. Good timing.

Cheers,
Kelly

A very long day..... 19 hours long including hike and ride.

Drove through Lillooet last time in 2004. A place well worth visiting again.

You sure picked a fun location to head up to.

Kelly once again you found a great area, thanks for the long day

Here are a couple quick stats

Return trip 18.11KM

I will add some pictures soon.

Although that was all the sun we saw we both had pretty red faces that day.

Thanks again Kelly

Wow, I just realized this picture is so familiar. Had not changed much.

Used to drive by that spot, and look at his place a number of times, on my daily drives up into the area.

One of my favorite areas, hope the fire damage from a couple summers ago isn't too severe. My wife and I hiked up Big Dog once from Blue Creek, and a second time from Noaxe Lake. Great to see an update, thanks

Rat, snowpack was probably 3-5ft possibly.
Marduk, we should head up there ASAP...you bring the music.
Elkaholic, yeah the fire damage was quite extensive up in that area...lower down there was still some greenery but up high just black sticks for trees. I hiked with another guy last night that had been up there with his wife a long long time ago...guess it isn't the secret passage way into that 7th dimension that I thought after all.

Cheers

Don't mind at all. I am what I am, we are what we are, I was what I was no matter how far...
