If someone was wanting to backpack to petgill lake in Squamish where could they park? I got ahold of sea to sky parks that run most of the provincial parks up there and the day use parks do not allow overnight parking aka Murrin Lake.

Good question... a short way further up the road (north) there's a gravel road leaving the southbound lanes heading west. I've never explored, but looking at Google Earth it seems to be leading so some sort of gravel quarry. I wonder if there's room to pull off out of the way in/on that road?

The gate in that parking lot is never locked. To answer your question there is a little pullout on the highway a few hundred metres north of the parking lot.
Petgill lake is an easy daytrip though.

The parks said no overnight so I am guessing your car could be towed. The real reason I posted this is to set up camp and have a better chance of doing goat ridge as I am pretty sure it would be to much for me as a day trip.

Ten years ago it used to be a quiet place to pirate camp, but now it's gated and patrolled by the quarry employees.

Well Rocker

I was told that if you leave a note in your car saying that your going for a overnight trip into Petgill. Your vehicle will be fine but no guarantee about theft

Back in 2011 I parked overnight with no issues, as well we bumped into 6 other people that parked and camped as well.

Driving past there yesterday, it seemed to me that there would be room to park on the shoulder of the road, heading north, close to the trailhead. There are a bunch of no parking signs on the right shoulder near the lake, but the last sign only has the arrow pointing right, implying that it would be OK to park after that sign.

I was looking at that yesterday as well. Heading south just before the lake there was three cars parked and no sign so that migth be it.
