Decided to take a vacation day again today to push the boundaries of the day trip once again. Arrived at parking lot at around 6:00am and didn't put on the mircospikes until about the 4km mark where there is consistent snow. There are patches of snow between 3-4km. Headed for Black Tusk first making my own route up a somewhat steep slope but what I would call a shortcut just a km or so after the Black Tusk/Panorama junction. Used my snowshoes once I hit Taylor Meadows since I was sinking with just boots. Took about 3.5 hours to get from the parking lot to the base of the Tusk, just before you head for the chimney (was easier walking up the steep slope with mostly snow (better than the loose scree :) Was nice and windy but refreshing. After playing around I took a different steep slope down to meet up with the Panorama trail (just above one of the lakes). Headed up Panorama peak leaving my bag for the first time by Black Tusk Lake. Felt easy even after doing the Tusk. Spent some time up there as usual and then headed for Garibaldi Lake on the way down. Saw two girls who were camping at the Lake and a small group going up the switchbacks in sneakers and carrying a cooler ;) A little early for this crowd to start lol :)

| Hey, i was up at Garibaldi too! I don't think I saw you though; I would have recognized the yellow jacket ;) I saw the group with sneakers too. I'm sure they had a blast despite the wet feet. Microspikes seem like a great idea, especially now when the snow is still crusty lower down and soft higher up. |

I'm melting! Melting! Oh, what a world!
Thanks for the TR - looks like still some good snow up there, if one hikes a bit |

That's a lot of ground covered for one day. Good on you! But more likely I would be napping to restore my energy on the summitt rather than crouching for a photograph.

1) Is the drive up to the parking lot totally clear of snow? 2) Can I make it to Garibaldi Lake without snow shoes in full boots and some patience without snowshoes? Tomorrows seems like a cooler day, so I'm guessing the snow wouldn't be quite as soft. |

Ivan: 1)Yes, 2)Yes
There is no snow to the parking lot... you have to up to the 3-4 km mark before you start hiking on it.
I carried snowshoes, but I never used them so I won't bring them again for the rest of the summer. Microspikes worked great.
Although, if you're walking around in the late afternoon the snow starts to get quite soft. DM |
