What to do with a few hours on a beautiful Monday? Chose Ford because time wasn't on my side. I could have driven right to the trailhead if I had had a spotter, but I got hung up a couple hundred meters short and had to back-up to find a place to turn around.

I don't remember this sign being there. Fergus says "Let's go!"

Easy going up the first half of the trail, there's lots of needles to cushion your steps. I got to this familiar spot where I always take a picture, hoping sooner or later I'll get one I like.

Started hitting snow a few minutes after this. Still easy going, I brought snowshoes and micro spikes but didn't need either. At some spots it was like opening the door of a fridge, the cold air was welcome, helping to cool me down.
I love this view up the valley!

I took a few shots of the surrounding peaks while I had some nibbles.

Fergus and I played fetch for a few minutes before heading back down. Just under 2 hours, my kinda monday!

You couldn't have asked for a nicer spring day to get out for a trip. By the way that's kind of a nice late model truck for those rough roads to the trail head. Glad to see you had the sense and where-with-all to back out rather than getting into trouble.

Nothing better than natural air-conditioning to cool off on a hot dayhike, I know exactly what you mean.

Funny, I don't remember seeing that sign either. Good choice Dean. Must have been hard to turn around!

I agree that is a good choice, you drive up a ways to get a higher elevation start. That sign looks relatively new, paint job looks good. I am surprised by how little snow there is.... seems we found a ton of the white stuff back late in March.

I wonder if anyone ever claimed that popcan stove that I left up there...
