The photos and their caption will have to talk for themselves. This is a classic ski mountaineering route. Took me some 25 years of ski touring around Vancouver before I finally got to it. Such things happen! This was a scheduled BCMC trip postponed from two weeks earlier. If you like this scene, and you'd like to ski Pelion and Breackenridge instead of snow stomping, learn how to downhill ski, join a club/BCMC, take the intro to ski touring and 2 day advanced courses, go out a full season or two, and this can be in your future too.

That's the plan. Just started skiing last season. This coming winter hope to begin ski touring. Ski Mountaineering is the eventual goal.
The sooner I can retire the snowshoe the better.
Love the photo essay and report. Looks fun. Will hopefully do it myself Spring 2014.

I hear that sentiment loud and clear. It would have been so killer to ski that gully system on Breakenridge! |

Nice trip Peter! A classic for sure.
Why so much carrying of skis across the upper Curtis and Hell's Hwy? Seems like some decent boot penetration, couldn't get the edges to stick?

Classic it is. Combined with the great weather, double classic. Great slideshow too. |

We needed to boot pack up Winnie's Slide in the morning, so after that, some of us continued just walking, while others who had Harscheisen put the skis on. I knew better because it is eventually downhill to Hell's Hwy and that's not fun with the Eisens, besides Hell's Hwy was also too steep again to skin up. In the end, it was equally fast either way - just walking or switching twice more. We all skied as soon as we got to Sulfide glacier.
