I am always on the hunt for people to go with. I am 37 and I can comfortably do up to 15 km per day, but have done up to 22 km depending on the terrain. I have been on several trips now including Strathcona, Cape Scott, Juan De Fuca, and Avion Ridge in Waterton, Alberta (that one was scary epic). But only around one hike per year because that's all I could convince my other half to do. After last year, she has decided to call it quits to anything more than an over-nighter.
I'd love to touch base with both of you and go from there..

Well Im Jason 33 I live in victoria. Dont have a car but can drive. I have done the west coast trail, juan de fuca trail 10 times I am not fit enough right now to hike 20 km in a day but easily 10 and if I push I could do 15 Im planing the north coast trail for the second time. Loved it. Basically Im tired of my lazy friends and want to be out more than in. I work down town. And I finish work at 4 and for training I alternate between doing stairs at a parkade or a fast hike along the ocean. Im doing this with a 25 pound backpack. I love doing things like mt finlayson but bushwacking down the back side. Bushwacking is my favorite hiking. Useing survey tape or just risk getting lost. I love survival. And know a tone of edible plants. I uave lived on vancouver island like 31 years of my life I know 10,000 different camping and day hike possibilities. I have a secret cabin in the woods and a secret fishing spot I have 4 close busable secret campspots. I like taking the bus with my bike and riding up to sooke and riding loging rds and just taking off in to the bush. |

Okay, perhaps I should clarify. I don't wanna end up on a hike with someone who thinks I'm in a more superior shape than I am. 15km is my upper limit in most cases too. I have done 22 once in the flat-lands of Cape Scott, but for the most part, 10 is where it stops being fun and starts being work. I also suffer from knee pain after a long enough trek with a heavy enough pack. But I'm doing everything I can think of to keep it under control. If you know of any tips on this subject, I'm all ears... I hike up Westwood Ridge every two days or so here in Nanaimo. It usually takes me an hour, and is less than 200m of elevation gain. I used to hike up Mt Benson, which is around a 700m climb. But I stopped 'cause it took 3.5 hours without a pack. Too long with my 2 hour daily commute to work.... |

I had osgood slatters disease as a kid. I have very bad knees now but there is a trick that works for me. I cut a tensor bandage in half and wrap it just around my Tibial tuberosidy and I find it helps. So far I have hiked with it on and built stength in my leg and now I dont have to wear it all the time sill hurts but then I put it on again. I also have damaged muscle on my left thigh that acts up and a very bad back from years of hiking and caring 50 pound backpacks. Now Im very light |

I actually meant 1 hour commute each way.
Glad to hear someone else out there is dealing with aches and pains as persistently as me. I just refuse to believe that at my age, I'm too old for this. lol |

| K, well, if yer interested in doing something just let me know. I just went into Carmanah for the long weekend with a couple of first timers..... and it rained. Nuff said.. It'd be nice to do something with someone who not only wants to hike, but has their own gear and skills and such too... |

CTC: I see you're planning a North Coast Trail trip in July. I may be interested in that. I see you also plann on doing what it takes to get right to the end after the lighthouse. I'm definitely interested in that.. We should meet up and do a small hike in the Victoria area.
