Took a vacation day today - was planning on going to Russet/Whirlwind but will go tomorrow with one of my friends. So I decided to go to Wedgemount, another favorite of mine. Was happy that I could drive all the way to the trailhead :) Started at 6am from there and was surprised how quickly I got to the top (1 hour 55 minutes) and I wasn't really going fast. I brought snowshoes but didn't need them at all - used my microspikes instead. Consistent snow starts after about 1.5 km. It's typical of what you would see on the switchbacks from Rubble Creek, however postholing more frequent since it isn't a very well travelled route this time of year compared to the switchbacks at Rubble. When I came out of the trees the ground was really hard and solid since it's pretty cold up there that time of morning. The ascent of the steep boulder field was a little challenging with just microspikes - even on my way down after a bit of sun it was still hard. I would suggested crampons for this if you go in the morning. Was a picture perfect day so I decided to go over to the glacier as usual (which is starting to melt and now the icecicle that was hanging goes from top to ground). After that I decided to head up on to the glacier as far as I could go almost touching another glacier - not sure which one this is. Took each step very carefully but wasn't too worried since it was pretty cold that time of morning and solid. Met only one other person on skis on the way down. All in all a 6-hour day. Ready for tomorrow's trip :)

Six hours is about what it would take me too - one way to the cabin. Your boots must be lighter than mine.

What a day to have a vacation day! It looks like you very much made the most of this gorgeous blue bird sky kind of day.

Nice shot. Looks like it must be taken while on glacier.
