Anyone been along Cameron Main lately? I'm wondering about the road conditions. In past years I've gone to Moriarty on the May long weekend but the last few years there has been a lot of snow. Usually we could drive as far as branch 283 but last May we slogged on snowshoes from much lower down and got only as far as Labour Day Lake. The Branch 283 junction where we have parked in previous Mays looked like this:

Friends have been into the Saddle route trail head by Arrowsmith in the last 2 weeks. They said you couldn't make it much further than that but since that's at about 1000m and the road into Labour Day lake is only about 500m you should be able to drive into Labour day lake. I can see Moriarty from near work and its still pretty covered with snow so I would expect the hike up it would still be needing snowshoes at this point.

Update, as of 25 May. Cameron Main is open to about 785 m, just past the last turn off to Labour Day Lake. After that, it is a soft snow slog to the lake, followed by rotten snow in the trees above the lake and post holing snow above the 1460 m level.

I was on a ski tour of Mt Cokely today and Cameron Main is well graded. Pass main a bit bumpy, but clear of snow and 2/W drivable all the way to the gates into the ski park.

We skinned up the Rosseau Chute and skied down the old runs twice and back to our vehicles in about 5 hours (and we're old & slow). Cokely is in perfect form for ski touring right now.

As of two days ago, the road to Labour Day Lk was clear of snow (graded) until the turn off to Minas Ridge. Lots of snow past there (not graded).

Thanks for reminding me of the name of that ridge. As I recall, it was named for someone named Minna who had an accident skiing on it, so the spelling is Minna's Ridge.
According to "A guide to cross-country ski tours of central Vancouver Island" produced by Nanaimo Nordics Cross-Country Ski Club, 1989

Thanks for the spelling correction and a bit of history. Some locals jokingly refer to it as "Mean-Ass Ridge" Interestingly enough, two of the people on our Cokely ski tour were involved with putting together the 1989 Nanaimo Nordic's cross-country guide booklet. Sort of dates us.
