Oh yes my friends it arrived in my mail during lunch today. It's the 2004 Backpacker Gear Guide!

I got mine in the mail yesterday and just briefly glanced through some of it last night. Some pretty neat stuff in there!

How do you get one and what is inside?
What kind of gear, one company or lots? Sounds intresting.

It'll be on the racks of all fine newstands, everywhere - soon. I remember seeing last year's edition at MEC and even Safeway last year at this time

It's better than last year's. They have gone back to listing by company again...Thank God!

They have more gear categories this time too!

Perhaps more importantly, how are the recommendations that the magazine makes? I know that a lot of camera mags (Pop Photo for one) are such slaves to the advertising dollar that everything ever made is great great great! Are the gear reviews/guides put out by Backpacker any better? Or do they whorship the advertisers too?

As much as it pains me, I think the recommendations are fair this year!
