Hey there! Anyone have current info on the trail conditions in Tonquin Valley. We'd like to try an early season sortie and wonder if snowshoes (or hip-waders) may be required. Mid-June has been good in the past, but May is unknown to me.

May will be snowy and the snow at low elevations will be isothermic. I'd be expecting one helluva wallow.

Marmot Basin sits at about the same as the Amathyst Lakes and Marmot closed last week end? Go for it, there shouldn't be any bugs, lol.

Hip-waders it is then! April and May are the only months of the year that we have yet to experience in the Tonquin/Eremite, so I have to at least try ;-)

Remember, if you're going in via the Astoria river you have to do the 12 kms of the Cavell road too. It won't be easy. I tried with snow shoes once in May and they were useless, as Sandy pointed out |

Update on trail conditions in Tonquin Valley...wet!! We bailed about 12km out of Cavell hostel, following the summer ACC trail. It was looking like a bivy was going to be a real possibility otherwise. A couple more weeks should see better conditions.
