Hey everyone. I have done this hike myself a couple of times, however, been several years - but now thinking about taking my 6 year old son on this hike. Has anything changed? I know it goes fairly steep and close to the cliffs, but is it really safe enough to take him, or should I wait a couple more years.
Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions? |

It depends on the 6 year old?
I think the trail would be fine. As long as he's smart and doesn't go off trail much. There are one or two short bits where he might want your help, but if you keep an eye on him, you won't have a problem. It is a pretty long walk back along the logging road though, so I don't know how much fun that trail would be for him. Just my opinion. |

In parts the trail is right next to a cliff with a sure death drop. There are chains right at the beginning as well that might be challenging as well. Personally I think 6 is a bit young. I'd recommend the first peak of the chief instead.
Don't forget at high falls there's the 7 km of logging road to walk after the hike as well. |

I'll 2nd that, I think it would be too adventurous for a 6 year old. Lots of near vertical chain climbs and one footing wrong is a big drop into a canyon which you will never get out of, if you survived. That saying, it is my favourite hike I have done in the Sea to sky corridor. It just that sometime sensibility has to prevail....

Thank you for the advice - I think I will wait on this one till maybe he is a bit older and less accident prone. Now that you mention it, I do remember some of those sections where it is really close to the edge, I also remember the climb with the chains... and he trips over his own two feet so I certainly want to make the sensible decision here.
Greendrop lake or Alder flats it is.
Thanks. :) |
