Hi Guys. Wondered if any one could help me out a little,
A bit of background.
I currently live in New Zealand but have visited Squamish twice before, 2 and 3 years ago respectively. My brother, living in Vancouver, is getting married in July, and i have the duty to organisie the stag do. I'm looking for a little help in finding a location for a bunch of the boys (12) to camp in Squamish for one night where we wont be causing a nuisance to others. We are all outdoor guys, so being a bit in the sticks is OK, but basically i'm trying to tap any info on a tucked away clearing with a river/lake nearby for a swim in the AM. We are looking to get back into Squamish for a raft trip the morning after we camp so something where a logging road or similar connecting us to the highway would be awesome
We are very respectful bunch, and will endeavour to leave the area we stay in a better state than when we arrived so please dont think this is a bunch of guys looking to trash the beautiful landscape of Squamish.

If you guys have anything that you think might fit the description above, that'd be awesome.

Regards,

Dan

If you don't mind being kept up all night by drunk people shooting guns I can recommend a place or two.

No replys on Squamish climbing eh....

The raft place should be able to offer you a place to camp.

There are quite a few places in Squamish that would fit your bill.

Check out the back road maps book for Squamish and it should offer you some ideas up in paradise valley.

You can even download it for a couple bucks and it should have all your answers.

With replys like those above its a wonder anyone can get a helping hand these days.

Just drive down the Squamish valley road till you find a spot. Claim it early in the day before the hooligans get to it. Wait till you get to the gravel part of the road cause most of the paved is private property on the river side. Should be able to be within 1/2 hr of town.

And the raft place is a good idea as well, with cabins and stuff. They are good people that operate it, it's called Sunwolf, you can google them.

Hey, that's not fair at all. This guy has basically asked: Hey, I'm coming in from far away to party, where can I do so freely?

That really is not a question anyone from clubtread should feel any obligation to reply to.

He could be:

1.a guy who sincerely doesn't want to bother people with his partying, and will indeed, leave no trace

or

2.a guy who wants to party and trash, and wants locals to tell him where he can best do this unimpeded by law enforcement or prying eyes

I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's #1, but either is quite plausible. There isn't any way to know, and I wouldn't blame anybody for not answering.

Ignore the uptights here...

Lost of free/decent places off the Squamish, Mamquam, Indian river roads. Just drive up until you find one that's vacant.
Have a great time and make sure you cleanup your site when done.

DC,

sometimes its ok to just take people for their word. I think when you go to some far away place you would appreciate the same in return.

Now when I go to New Zealand I got my main man Dan to call up :)

True, as I said, I would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I wouldn't hold it against anyone who was skeptical. Obviously, it would be different if he were asking for places where he could have the kind of naturalistic outdoor experience many of us value on this forum...not a night of debauchery. Particularly when so many have had their nights/weekends/vacations ruined by people of this ilk.

Having said that, he could easily lie and pretend he wanted the former, so if he's being completely honest (regarding the cleaning up, and not wanting to bother others), then I give him absolute credit for that.

Consider that Clubtread is easily searchable as well as coming up high on Google queries, so you aren't just giving this information to Snakebite, but as open easily accessed info to anyone who wants it. I'm happy to share a lot of info, but not a place that I could essentially drive to and through a raging bush party at, if only because these places tend to get over-used and abused over time. I'm not intending to be an elitist prick about it.

Excellent point. Consider also that any one of the individuals attending may decide in the future to return to the spot for similar activities and/or advise others to do the same. Should that happen, sooner or later, damage will be done, or garbage will be left, or others will be disturbed....

For something a little off the beaten track that you can still drive up to I'd recommend Levette Lake. A 2WD with HC should easily be able to make it.

It's not tucked away (I doubt anyone is going to give up their secluded camping spots on the internet) but it is a lot less busy than say Alice Lake or Cat Lake.

You may still get your louts on dirtbikes and quads. I was there last May and we had the place to ourselves. But we could see some broken glass and burnt beer cans on the trail. I'd recommend arranging to be there mid week if possible and definitely not on a long weekend.

There are a few summer places around Levette lake so it isn't that isolated. Better off camping along one of the rivers nearby on crown property.

More accurately: everyone stay home and get drunk in your backyard, and have your bachelor parties in a hotel.

I always find it funny that so many people's idea of "camping" is: let's sit and get drunk...just like we do everywhere else...but if it's in the woods, then we're "enjoying the outdoors"!
