Anyone else have this problem with their pack belts? All my packs do it, but my old Osprey Aether 75 is the worst. I get my pack set right, tighten the belt (and the belt is resting on my iliac crest, adjusted properly) and the weight is off my shoulders. All feels great, and I set out. 5-10 minutes later, sure enough, I have to re-snug my hip belt.

It's worse with more weight in the pack, and with 50lbs (or more) in the Aether, it requires snugging a lot.

It's annoying. I have tried tying the belt ends in a knot, but then have to undo the knot to drop my pack, and that's a pain.

The only problem I have ever had with my Osprey packs is the sternum strap always slips upwards along that fabric track it's attached to.

You might try replacing the buckle? MEC has an assortment of buckles for various sizes of webbing.

Until I visited the Cilogear world headquarters and got the royal tour from Graham, I didn't know that buckles (Fastex etc.) came in various resistances (for a given piece of webbing)...

... be careful what you wish for, however.

I keep trying to convince myself that this I caused by rapid weight loss but I must accept that it is actually the belt loosening.

I have had some success by locking off one side of the hip belt with a tri-glide and sewing a camming buckle on the other side which I use to lock out the belt once I have it set. I picked up a wide camming buckle at Spirit West in Calgary which is a similar to the one linked below.

Not sure if this would work with the forward pull waist belts used on the Osprey Packs.

I hadn't really thought that the buckles may have worn a bit, allowing the webbing to slip through. That pack is old now (2006) and has a LOT of miles on it.

All my packs do it a bit, but the old Osprey is the worst, by far. I stand corrected, my BCA Float pack doesn't do it, but it uses a metal buckle that is crazy strong/tight.

I have two packs, and frequently (every 30 minutes to an hour) I need to stop and readjust the straps. They seem to work loose and let slide.

Some of the MEC bags have a different looking buckle system that may or may not be more resistant to slippage. I do prefer them because it is easier to tighten them up.

For example:

My osprey 38 kelsy I bought last yr is like that too. All the straps have to be adjusted while hiking.

That being said, I love my osprey. It's a great pack

I have an Osprey Aether 85....had it for 5 years. With some heavy 50lb+ loads. It never loosens. And I'm skinny.

Sweat much? I find the nylon webbing stretches a fair bit as it gets damp.
