You may not think it, but kamloops with it's dry rolling and somewhat boring landscape, actually has some interesting hikes if you look hard enough. I stumbled upon a pretty cool trail west of kamloops on the north side of kamloops lake almost parallel to Tobiano golfcourse.

Noticed a pretty prominent ridge with lots of cool rock features, so I went in search of a trail head and sure enough at the bottom of the ridge was a somewhat trodden path. The trail pokes in and out of the trees and pops out for a spectacular view of the valley once and a while.

The peak isn't what is amazing about this area as it simply plateaus, its further east down the ridge where it gets interesting. Along the way you will probably notice an iconic looking tree:

Heading across even more you come to a knoll at the end of the ridge that is divided by a bit of a gully with a pretty wicked chute lined with huge cliff walls.

Circle around the back side of this and you're at the end of the ridge. At this point the natural rock bridge is directly below with a bit of a scramble to get down. Definitely worth the extra effort to get to it as its completely spectacular!

You can either go back the way you came or continue scrambling down to the road below.

This has become one of my most favourite hikes and worth checking out if you are in kamloops.
I dont know if it has a name or not but to get to it you must cross Tranquil creek where it meets kamloops lake and continue up the hill, take your first left and from there, drive along a small dirt road and on your right you will notice the long ridge like formation. West end of that is the trail head.

That's part of the Dewdrop Range. I used to live in Kamloops and wandered the hills (trail or no trail) a lot. There are lots of eroded hoodoo's around there and quite a good area for rock-hunting (geodes). I miss the area...may look boring but quite unique.

Did somebody say...geodes? Way cool. Rugged area. The views of the water and beyond are like big sky country. nice. I like how you can either go on or scramble freely up or down.
I get a lot of that down here. uh..sometimes I get ledged up, though.
