Easy fix to keep Canucks out of the penalty box: Stop diving...stop beaking and chirping. Even Tony Gallagher stated that Kesler is "overly-dramatic" and I agree.
I agree. However Gallagher is a rat. There is a reason his nickname is Gollum. |

I didn't mean anything about Canadian vs American teams-- you misunderstood me. No biggy. I was just wanting to know if you would make similar comments about all teams/games, or just Van.
But you sure say "should have" a lot, which seems strange because I recall you saying that "any team can beat any team in the NHL." That's a bit flip floppy to me.
Everyone knows the Pres Trophy doesn't mean a thing in the playoffs (other than home ice advantage...), but by calling it meaningless you are doing two things: 1) being purposefully antagonistic toward Van, because we all know you hate them, and 2) minimizing the ball busting hard work that it takes a team to finish in top spot after 82 games. If you think so little of the effort required to be a pro hockey player, why don't you start a bowling or lawn dart thread?
Oh nice one shadow- you deleted most of your response that I was replying to. Second thoughts about calling the Pres Trophy meaningless and saying who "should have" won last nights games, eh? Next time I'll quote directly. |

I thought some of the penalties were deserved and some the refs have no choice but to call (puck over the glass). Others I thought were horseshit (Kassian's hit and Kesler's face wash).
And then there's some pretty questionable moments that DIDN'T get called against the Kings. I remember a late game hook and that spear to Luongo in the first period. I know that my psych degree taught me that I will always be biased to see my group's actions more favourably than others, but I just didn't see moves that big being overlooked for the canucks. Every call they could make, they make. |

Sometimes I edit my posts for grammar, for spelling errors and punctuation, and sometimes I re-think and re-word my replies, in an effort to minimize offending the tediously thin-skinned. Doesn't always work, as you have noticed...feel free to quote me directly, I don't care. As for the Presiden't Trophy it IS meaningless...nobody joins the big leagues hoping only to win the President's trophy. It hasn't been around except for the last few years which shows how worthless it is...if it was anything noteworthy, there would be a President's Trophy parade down Howe Street, but there isn't. This doesn't minimize the effort required to attain it (this is where the "thin skin" comes into play) but 20 years ago, the TOP team in the league got bragging rights and that was enough; they didn't need a trophy. As I mentioned earlier, teams in the Atlantic or Central divisions had to play tougher teams than the Canucks faced in the comparatively pathetic Northwest division...making this Trophy even more meaningless.
As for the "should have"...yes, I am quoting the STATS...further proving that regular season standings are relatively meaningless in the playoffs as well. I don't think it's any real "NEWS" to label me as a Canuck hater, although I don't agree with it...I simply don't worship the Canucks, nor do I see them as any sort of champions. They have come CLOSE...twice in their 40 years in the NHL, but until I actually see them hoisting the cup in the air, I can't consider them as anything more than "also-rans".
So...picks for tonight, anyone?
I say LA 3-2 in OT. Nashville over Detroit Pittsburgh over Philly New Jersey over Florida

| Perhaps it might be biased, there is some nuck fans in the replies however. Personally I think Canucks would do best in Hollywood. |

Philadelphia...WOW!
Hat trick for Couturier...6 point night for Giroux...they look unstoppable. Unfortunately I can't change my original prediction, but it looks like the series could go to Philly in 5.
Hmmm....didn't do so good on my picks. Another brutal game for Vancouver as they drop to 2 and 0 in the series.

Looks like most of the series are starting to get very physical. Another reason why I don't like Vancouver's chances past the second round...
If they fall to LA tonight, they're more or less cooked!

STATS... Stats are like Bikinis, what they suggest are revealing, but what is underneath are vital. |

Wow...what an embarrassing game! I don't know who's diving is worse, Cryin' Kesler or Alex (Bite me) Burrows. Brutal hit on Sedin...but at least he got back into the game.
0 - 0 going into the 3rd...

| The radio describes it as "a penalty laden game". I was working so couldn't catch any of it. |

It was a very "emotional" game...lots of hard hits, lots of dives and some dirty stuff as well. Canucks down 3 games to 0.
President's Trophy IS meaningless...in the playoffs.
Countdown to Gillis whining to the media about their lack of power-plays? Not likely...you're just not making them count!

Jonathan Quick made 41 saves, Dustin Brown scored on a long rebound with 13:30 to play, and the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Kings pushed the Vancouver Canucks to the brink of elimination with a 1-0 victory.
Game four on wednesday, ouch, sha-nah-nah-na-na-na-nah, hey hey hey... ! |

The Kings are doing it too. Drew at least one penalty with a dive. Part of the reason why they gave that one to Kessler as a make up call, IMO.
The playoffs this year are a total gong show. Every game I've watched this year has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Way too many suspension worthy plays out there. It really bothers me that the rules change during the playoffs. You want to keep a bunch of kids in line, be consistent.
Canucks have been putting lots of pucks at the net but are getting very few quality scoring chances. The Kings defensive coverage has been unreal and Quick is made of glue. |

| The Philadelphia/Pittsburgh series is getting uglier with each game. Look for Philly to sweep the series in 4; not one of my predictions is looking to come true. |

| I can't see the canucks pulling out four wins. The Kings are in their head now. Between the frustration over the Sedin hit, all the mocking in media etc. they just don't have it. Somewhere in that Boston series someone figured out how to sap the confidence and coordination from that team and ever since it hasn't been the same. |
