Hello,
I am wondering if anyone has hiked the Cape Scott Trail to Nels Bight yet this year? I am hoping to do it over the Easter weekend and am wondering what shape the trail is in? I have hiked it before, but it has been 5 years. Thanks for any input you might have :)

Not this year - I was there last August. The Cape Scott part was in excellent condition, with a bit of mud. I gather there will be a tad bit more mud now.

Also, from the BCparks website: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/cape_scott/

A land slide occurred on the trail between Nels Bight and Experiment Bight on the Cape Scott Trail. Please use caution when crossing this section of trail during high wind and rain events.

There could be more than mud, it might be underwater? See photo attached from hiking out in early July last year.

And that was a good section; there were sections where the entire board walk was under 3+" of water... I would anticipate heavy mud, water logged sections, blowdowns...

Sounds like fun!

Lets all go!

Did it Easter wknd last year.. was actually really good since it hadn't been tromped into mud for a few months.

There were some blowdowns that added about 10 minutes to the entire hike.

Highly recommended!

Hi Jennwillson, I was out in January. There were a few trees down, most before the Fishermans River. The trail has a flooded section around twelve K. With the big storms we have had this year. the beaches have all been changed around. There has also been a slide between Nels and Experiment Beach. It is possible to cross the slide but it is a bit muddy.
I will also be out in the park that weekend with my wife and maybe a couple of friends

The boardwalks will be slippery a good thing to carry is a set of tracks for your boots, we use them and they give you security when walking on the boardwalks.

Maybe we will see you out there.

Happy hiking
