Looking for more information on the Klanawa River; it's located on the west coast of the island between Bamfield and the Nitnat Narrows (flowing into the ocean through the WCT).
My biggest question is can that river be paddled to the ocean from the obvious put in spot 3 - 5 km up stream? I'm googling it but have yet to find much information on the river.
Any info would be great. And I'm sure that 60 seconds after posting this my next google link will tell me all I want to know ;) |

It sounds like Quagger at Islandhikes.com may have some beta. I researched this trip a couple years back and found various canoe references. A google search combining canoe and Klanawa turned up the below.
Thanks for bringing this back to my attention. This is a good one for us to attack this spring.

"The marine coast of the Klanawa LU is included within Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Backpacking, wildlife viewing, camping and kayaking are popular activities within in the park. The Klanawa River is known as a good canoeing river." |

Myself and a friend canoed the Klanawa 35 years ago (yikes). We actually put in some 23 km upstream of the mouth ... at that time there was a road that crossed the river at that point and it was drivable using a 4wd. From that point on the river the trip was an odyssey, we didn't so much canoe most of the way as used the canoe to carry our stuff while we various pushed, pulled and manipulated our way down the river. From the mouth of the river, we portaged to the Tsusiat River and (wait for it), canoed up the Tsusiat to Tsusiat lake and canoed back up the Nitinat triangle. A very memorable trip.
