Most of us didn't actually vote for Stephen Harper. |

Well this thread is very quickly going to careen off the ledge. That said, Harper has been a major disappointment, even for a person who didn't have high expectations. I don't expect politicians to be identical to me in all views, they shouldn't be, but I do expect them to use some evidence to support their decisions. That's evidently a youthful pipe-dream. This tough on crime approach is a massive waste of my money blah blah blah... Just exemplifying how people like me are going to careen this thread off the edge. |

| On the MEC Facebook site, there is a discussion going on about these matters. Since posts don't rise to the top with new entries, you need to open the posts and select the options to see older ones. I could post the text here, if anyone prefers not to visit Facebook. |

| MEC has lost the magic, plain and simple :-( According to the blurb on the inside cover of their last printed catalog (what am I going to read on the toilet?) the mission is now "responding to an increasingly diverse membership". Hence the leisure clothing and travel tourism. They've gone corporate and reached a paunchy middle-age along with their target demographic. |

"responding to an increasingly diverse membership".
Definitely MEC has gotten into the "Emperor has no Clothes" realm.
What goes beyond ironic is that the new rule empowering the sitting board to determine who can run for election to the board, is a simple but completely effective tool to eliminate healthy representation of diverse viewpoints on the board and by candidates for the board.
But it can't all be blamed on the board. 91.7% of MEC's members voted in favor of disenfranchising themselves, with no proof of any need for any such change. |

Rather than bury it in this topic, I have opened a new topic about the discussion of MEC's new rule giving the board the power to stop having elections.
