With the number of reports of Avalanche accidents this winter as a not so subtle reminder I finally pulled the trigger and registered for an AST-1 Avalanche Course.

Just wanted to give anyone who was thinking about doing a snowshoe version of this course, the heads up that the Mar 17-18 edition is the last one of the season from these folks :

This is really good to know. I was just looking at doing a course. We had a very close call up on Needle Peak this past weekend so it's time for a refresher.

I'd be curious to hear about the incident/your observations. Only because we hope to a day trip in the Coquihalla area this weekend and the more info the better.

Cheers!

busguy: I signed up for that same session a few weeks back. Perhaps i'll see you there
I've been reading over the booklet they sent in the mail to prep.

also trying to get some more visual prep by watching a course that someone filmed in Alberta (class and field) on youtube -- hopefully it'll sink in better and I'll have more questions to ask when I actually do the course

Here's the links to the youtube video:

I'm going to post up a full trip/incident report tonight with photos and a link to some video.

I've taken this AST-1 course with Canada West Mountain School. Very informative and worthwhile in my opinion. I evaluate terrain completely differently now since taking it.

Also, before taking it, watch "A Dozen more Turns". They'll probably ask to see who in the room has already watched it.
