Well if anyone is looking for a nice challenging hiking trip I do recommend hiking up to Moose Mountain. The weather was gorgeous Sunday afternoon. There is a gate that is locked at the bottom of the road leading to the trail head, but I figured I would conquer that. It's only 7.5 km uphill. After about 90 minutes trekking up the road and beginning to doubt dragging my snowshoes along I reached the trail head for Moose Mountain. Luckily, within the first 100m, 1 1/2m high snowdrifts were soon found on the trail.
Being my first long solo trip, I had to break trail with my snowshoes the entire way up. Three trees have fallen over the trail, one that was severely prickly that tried to disembowel me as I tried to squeeze past with my snowshoes on.
After reaching the base of the first peak, I decided not to climb up but to head back as I wanted some daylight on the return trip. It was a hard trip down, reaching my truck in the dark. Decent hike, 25km round trip with a 400m gain/loss. not bad for 6 1/2 hours. Cheers

| I think I know exactly where you found those drifts... last year just before the road closed I attempted to drive thru there but the oil company trucks had left deep ruts in the drifts and were dragging bottom. I figured my van would get stuck for sure (although I was tempted to take a run at it) so I went elsewhere since there was no place to park off the road without getting stuck. |

6 and a half hours? 25 KM? SNOW SHOES? Ummmm... Yeahh, that totally sounds legitimate.....
Did you have your shot gun on this trip as well? Hopefully you had a side arm too in case you don't have time to reload your shot gun. You know that bears always attack in pairs right? |

| Yeah, I did have my shotty with me. I was hoping you would be tripping up the trail in a black bear costume. I could always use some spring-time target practice. |
