With a population of 10 to 30 it does not seem like a reasonable risk to go into this area at all with the intention of logging, that's for sure. 8( Sad for the owls.

Quote from article..."She says local residents are holding a vigil across from the cutblocks to observe and protest the logging."
This is what members of WCWC and others tried to do near our DL#33 [about 65 hectares] and the Forest company & First nations[who are logging it] successfully got a Court Injunction granted to them to prohibit the onsite observations.
Even though this forest was/is part of a very recent protected CDF [ coastal douglas fir ] zone 2010/2011. Several small areas I fought for near the L.Qualicum River were protected,& one near Bowser, however #33 is slated for 35% cutdown.
The problem with our local environment groups here is that they are myoptic in their vision and discrimatory who they chose to support them, and one member has done/supported things on the municipal local Council to remove public lands[2012] for quick sales to private-interest for short term profit to the municipality.
Our UN heritage designation is also on the ropes due to large disagreements over being active or passive.
Our Local WCWC also has failed to publically recognize various organizations and individuals that fought past and present battles along side them.
This has caused a rift locally within the environment movement and has allowed the Timber Companies and First nations involved to further degrade the habitats and remaining old growth.
I don't know if similar divisiveness is occuring in the CRV, but every ally lost is another nail in the coffin of old growth.
I have a passion for older growing forests as I have seen the wildlife values in them from a time perspective of decades and food-harvesting perspective many of you here do not have.
It is my thorough belief that any/all remaining oldgrowth in BC needs to be off limits to chainsaws and dams and allowed their full potential to grow to unlimited heights and ages.
Been knocking my head against many walls over the decades, and when one area or more is successfully protected, along comes a change in TFL status or Timber ownership and all deals are usually lost.
I don't know if there is an answer to a province that uses wedge methods on citizen concerns and environmental causes, and focuses on resource extractions and net-zero% to the public purse.
Sorry folks. Good Luck with the remainder.Sincere.
