Planning on snowshoeing in the area this weekend and am wondering about the Falls Lake parking? I'm guessing driving to the actual parking lot is impossible except for maybe a Unimog but how about parking in the vicinity. Is it illegal to park along the highway at the Falls Lake exit or if anyone's been there is it possible to pull off the road somewhat or have the snowplow's made that a no go? I imagine the highway conditions themselves should be pretty good for the weekend though.

Thanks for any info.

we have parked at the bottom of the southbound onramp without problem. It can be crowded sometimes.

Have done the same. Right close to where the branch road exits off the main exit lane.

They generally try to keep an area cleared for vehicles to park along the southbound onramp where the Falls Lake road begins. Unless there was a very recent dumping of snow, you should be fine.

Hey that's great. Thanks for the info. It doesn't look like any fresh snow coming so hopefully there will be no problems with the parking there.

try not to block the ramp for the sledders, or they have to use the road, crowding things even more.

Incidentally the hwy was closed for 90 minute stretches today due to avalanche control. Must be alot of snow-loading cornices up there.

Feb 2nd, sticki niki and I got told by Ministry of Transportation about Avalanche Control and that we could not go up Needle Ridge or some guy was going to come and kick our asses. (meanwhile, 3 skiers had just gone up ahead of us). Nikki asked if Zoa was safe and once again we were told no so I suggested we drive up to the Coquihalla Lakes. Snowshoed there until we came across a collapsed bridge and had to turn around. Went into the lodge, spoke to the owner there who unaware about the Avalance Control going on. He suggested we drive across the hwy and snowshoe towards Dry Gulch. We couldn't find the TH he was talking about and ANOTHER Ministry of Transportation worker stopped us and told us we couldn't snowshoe there either (unless we wanted to be killed). Finally, on our way back from this interesting day, we came across our first sign! Weather and views were stunning though and did end up going to the Othello Tunnels instead.

Fantastic day yesterday. Couldn't have been better weather and snow conditions. Went to the true west summit. No avy issue's what so ever. Was quite warm actually managing a bit of a sunburn in the process. I'll put some pics up as soon as the other's send them to me.

Cheers.

Only annoyance were three snowmobiler's along the road from the upper parking area but we soon lost sight and sound of them.

You can expect to hear/see lots of snowmobiles in that area as they have lots of groomed trails there, as it is home of the Coquihalla Snowmobile Club:
