There is now an online petition about the Discovery Walk project and other private commercial projects. As of this morning, it had over 10,000 signatures. If you use the national parks as much as most of us do on CT, this is something you will want to help with.

Private international companies should not be profiteering off our national treasures. Click here to ensure our parks stay in public hands -- sign the petition calling on the Jasper National Park Superintendent to save Jasper National Park before it's too late:

I've seen it circulating on Facebook, so the word is definitely starting to get out there. I think there was only 50 signatures when I originally signed it a week or two ago.

There was one posted by the Jasper Environmental Association, but the new one on Avraaz has gone out to all their members. It went up last night and had 10,000 signatures by morning, and 20,000 by 2:00PM today.

....and 85,000 on Monday morning.

This is now the most viral Canadian petition that Avraaz has ever had! Now we just have to get the government to listen. Send a note to your MP and share the link on your Facebook page.

He doesn't seem to have a home address posted that I can find. Understandable, perhaps.

But there's this:

Park Superintendent
Greg Fenton
Phone: 780-852-6171
E-mail: greg.fenton@pc.gc.ca

The petition was one of the lead stories on CBC radio (Edmonton) this morning, and it's now up to 132,000 signatures.

Jasper National Park defers decision on controversial glacier walk
Edmonton Journal

"Parks Canada will take additional time to complete its determination regarding an environmental assessment. A final determination will be made in the coming weeks."

Interesting. They could be hoping that the opposition to the project will blow over. They may also be giving time to Brewster's to provide more information or to amend the application's more controversial aspects? I can't really see what the delay gains JNP if they were leaning towards saying "No".

Over 179,000 today... Signed anyway regardless of the deferral of the decision. Hopefully the message is getting through...

Avaaz has upped the ante!

We got a delay, but as has been mentioned, Parks Canada may just be waiting for the fuss to blow over. Click the link to send emails to Greg Fenton, or Peter Kent (he's the Minister of the Environment who didn't know what ozone is).
