I heard there was a slide down the Silver Skagit Rd around the 11Km Mark. So I decided to go take a peak at the condition this morning. The roads were icy with a thin layer of snow on top, very slippery in places. At 10 KM mark I met some hunters broke down with a dead battery, gave them a jump and sent them on their way... Once I reached 11.4Km I had to turn around due to the slide. Although a plow has gone through the slide, it is flooded, very muddy, and slippery and unpredictable. Turning around on the glare ice at the slide is a bit of a chore as well at this point.
I doubt I will go down this road again until the spring, the road and area can be unforgiving. |

They're fairly quick at repairing this road, are they not?
Thanks for sharing this. |

| There is a good chance it will be fixed soon, unsure just how long ago it happened. I wouldn't go in there without tire chains on hand, and someone else in another truck as backup (and pull chains perhaps). It can be a far desolate place at times out there in the winter, cold, no cell service for help in that area. I've gone down there in much more snow, it is much easier. But because of the way it is now, it is trecherous until it gets alot more snow and trucks already going down it to break it in. It's practically shear ice. Give it a few weeks and some snow and it should be a bit better/safer. Lots of locals, including myself feel the place is jinxed, you have to be prepared out there in the winter, you don't want to have to walk for help way out there, I've been there. Not a whole lot of people use the road so much in the winter, it normaly isn't plowed to the best of my recollection. |

A month ago there was tons of snow requiring tire chains, a buddy and I took his truck with new tires there and we drove 1km before turning around and coming back because we didn't have chains. We were breaking trail however on the road. Unsure now, likely lots of vehicles have gone in there, I'd bring chains for backup. We had a fluke dump of snow all day yesterday out here and was damp and slushy and accumulated. A place you don't want to get stuck without chains, and cell phone use is limited.
Good luck! |

Thanks a bunch, Aces, we never did give it a try. |

| No problem, it sure is much quieter up there in the winter because of the roads. |

| Doesn't look like the road has been repaired as of this weekend. I didn't have a problem getting past though, just put it into 4 wheel drive and crawled through. Water was maybe a foot or so deep. |
