As Winter ends Summer starts. If you have used the Tet park during the winter please keep in touch with Tet outdoor club as Volunteers will be needed to brush trails out and help with Firewood cutting and Airlifts. The only way cabins and trails get kept up is with many Volunteers. There maybe he;p needed to rebuild the collapsed bridge that was removed.

I heard there was a group from Tet club going in to move firewood from old bridge crossing to 1 of the cabins yesterday. Lots of Volunteer hours go into firewood, trail brushing ,cabin repairs etc so maybe let the Tet club know you are up for doing some Volunteer work to keep cabins going. In the Fall when the Heli lift of firewood happens they need helpers to unload cargo nets and stack firewood in cabins etc. If you have carpentry skills you might be needed to repair cabins in summer.

Hopefully someone will post Tet conditions soon.

The Tet Outdoor club is celebrating 25 years since cabins been built. Please keep in touch with Tet club as volunteers are often needed to help maintain the cabins and trails. If you have seen anything at the cabins that need repair please let Tet club know. The cabins were built with local volunteers and Bussiness support. Many of which have never been to cabins after they were finished. Hoping the Tet club will have pictures of building process and the many people that helped.

I didn't travel into the tet, but I was driving around in the vicinity this past week. The road to the trail head is in great shape, relatively speaking. Points above Bachelor and Edwards, about 1100M, were snow free.

Please use caution on Logging roads a Young Sechelt Women was killed after the Quad she was on was hit from rear by a speeding SUV. Back roads are narrow and have many other users on them.

Here is link to Story in local paper UPDATE The driver has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop at an accident causing death.

http://www.coastreporter.net/article/20120716/SECHELT0101/307169997/-1/sechelt/community-mourning-the-loss-of-shelby-rowland

Many people walk and Bike on the logging roads and driving fast on them risks many peoples lives. From what I have heard the quad was stopped on the side of the road when it was hit. Many times while plowing the Tet road I have almost been hit by speeding drivers. Whats around the next corner can you stop in time if there is a person walking or a car coming at you. Speeding and loosing control can and will kill someone!!!!
Our local community in Sechelt lost a young person because of a selfish person wanting to have fun.

Cavecan

Thanks for the post. As a Sunshine Coaster myself, all one can say is this is a tragic loss of a young life. Utterly senseless.

I am a frequent 4x4 driver on roads all over the sunshine coast as well as the sea-to-sky and the southern Rockies. At one time it was logging trucks that posed a hazard in these areas but that pales compared to the recklessness of yahoos turning the backroads into their own off-road race courses.

It's wise to drive slowly, and cautiously on FSR's simply because the other guy may be doing just the opposite.

Heads up - there is maintenance planned for the Bachelor cabin between August 2nd and 3rd. It is suggested that this cabin area be avoided that weekend if you would like peace and solitude rather than construction noise.

thanks, Tet Outdoor Club

Last night Search and rescue got called out because someone was overdue from trip to Tet. S&R members went up in dark to find the person at McNair cabin Please make sure you stick to your plan and check in when you can. These Volunteer members went up in dark searching for someone who was having a good trip.
Please plan your trips and give extra time don't try to squeeze to much into a short trip.

A memory card was found near the summit of Steele by a friend of mine today. Let me know if you lost it and I'll try to get it back to you.

The group that found it have added some details:

Probably from Vancouver Island, Drive a Toyota pick up truck. Or did, they were trying to sell it in January of 2009.

There will be help needed to move firewood in the fall. Many Volunteers built the cabins and it takes lots of amazing volunteers to take care of them.

just got down from edwards daytrip almost got hit by a super fast blue pick up truck who was coming down suicide hill to fast he hit brakes when he saw us going up and he started to fishtail and loose control. Only takes 1 idiot to kill people.
There were 6 guys doing lots of work on the cabin they need many more people to help out firewood airlifts will happen in month or so and need people to be at cabins to unload and stack wood inside before snow flies or no heat. the guys have put new windows in and stained the outside. sealed leaks and painted etc. Please contact Tetoutdoor.ca to let them know you want to help. it is unfair it is the same bunch of people doing all the work. Plan a weekend to go up and help before snow comes. If you are a carpenter etc and can help fix things let club know or just grunt work to move wood or help trail or bridge work.

Pics from aug trip to Edwards All tools and supplies have to be airlifted in by chopper so it takes lots of planning and money to do work up there. Get a membership in the Tetoutdoor club to support all the efforts to keep all these cabins going. If you plan on going up to cabins and see firewood outside you can help by stacking it under the cabin. All the wood outside Edwards cabin was cut from the collapsed bridge and hauled to cabin by human pulled sleds. Hopefully a new bridge will be flown in next year if all prep is done maybe you can help..
