This was just posted by the scout group that was up this weekend

Tetrahedron
Current Conditions Sunday, January 15, 2012

Hi All
Just got back from an overnight with our senior Scouts (Venturer Scouts). We chained up at the first snow on the road and had an uneventful drive up. There were 2 other vehicles in the parking lot when we arrived at around 9 am. It was snowing quite heavily for most of our snowshoe trek to Edwards Lake cabin. On our way we met Doug and Lloyd and a group of 3 heading to Batchelor. We spaced ourselves out and crossed Edwards Lake. The cabin was in great condition....nice and clean. We did see a mouse that evening though. In the morning, the sky was blue and there was a foot of fresh powder. We had a great trip back. On the drive down the tracks were well spread out. The road is in good condition.

Here is a recent report from group that was at Bachelor thus weekend

Bachelor Trip Report Jan 13-16
Monday, January 16, 2012

The road conditions to the final crux hill 700 m or so from the lower parking were very good. It's been a couple years since I last drove this road and someone has done a great job decommissioning the decommissioning ditches, I saw some recent gravel laid down too. The final steep pitch was solid ice full across the road, all the way to the lower parking lot. A pair of chains was all it took to conquer it, and the fresh snow on Saturday made it possible for vehicles to make it up without throwing on chains.

The new smaller stove in Bachelor fulfills its role of conserving wood perfectly. The cabin never got beyond ‘slightly warm’ and there is a great hot spot between the stove and the reflector if you need to really warm up.

A few parties came by on day trips. Some managed to spin an entertaining yarn or two before descending back down.

We stayed off the lakes on Friday, the snow level was so low, and it didn’t look like the area had seen much freezing. The recent snowfall and falling of temperatures should increase the level of safety, but don’t take my word for it! Do your own due diligence.

We left the cabin spotless as we found it, didn’t have visits from any critters, furry, winged or masked.

Looks like warmer weather coming could be rain at some higher elevations. If we get rain on the road it will turn to ice fast Use chains and check the road out for yourself. Cypress has warmed up and is raining. Lets hope for colder weather and snow for the hills. Please make sure you pay the cabin fees as all this money goes to taking care of cabins IE flying firewood in and upkeep etc.

Please post any info from your trip post some pics share your stories. Waiting for school group to post some info they had a great time at both Edwards and Bachelor during the week.

Snow pack is much less then normal years.

This was just posted on suncoastcentral many thanks to Steve and Sue for sharing info

Tet conditions Jan 28th
Sunday, January 29, 2012

Hit snow around 3kms on road. Freshly ploughed Saturday am.
Drove to top without having to put the chains on - thank you Cavin. Cross ditches now snowbridged nicely. About 2 feet new snow last 7 days at Victor's Landing. Edwards Lake solid. Easy crossing Steele Creek on snow bridge. Lots new snow in the bowl halfway up Steele.
Edwards cabin found clean and tidy. Cabins are seeing lots of use but the wood supply is holding out. Please don't burn the wood just to heat your soup - use backpacking stoves.
Despite lots of new snow there was no evidence of slides or sloughs. Stick to the ridges where possible.

Good Day in the Tet
Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Three of us went up skiing today. Nobody else there. Rainy and 0C at parking lot. Road well ploughed (thank you) and the ice on it was soft. Went out towards Edward Lake. Snowed much of the time. Several inches of new snow on top of much harder base made a great day. Could ski anywhere we wanted.

Thanks cavecan

We saw capt Quinn at Steele cabin on Sunday afternoon.

Feb 3 Friday night we drove up to the main parking lot around 7pm 4x4 no chains had no issues.
Parking lot area had 4-6 inches of softer snow.
Feb 6 monday around 1pm road coming out was very slick and total sheets of ice in many sections.
We put on chains on all wheels had no issues but did see three vehicles make it with 4x4 no chains to lot.
Highly don't recommend it.

Have not heard any reports from Tet but sounds like warmer temps might have seen some melt of snow base in lower levels. Road maybe soft and muddy with slush or ice. If you have heard any new info please post it.

Tetrahedron Update, Silly Drivers
Current Conditions Sunday, February 19, 2012

We drove up on Feb. 18. We've been going there once or twice a year for probably 20 years, and we've never seen the gravel road in such good condition.

There was snow above the bridge, and the last 2 km were deep enough to impede progress. I broke trail and made it to the parking lot without chains or spinning. A party of 6 had left an Audi Quattro station wagon parked so that there wasn't room to turn around at the top of the parking lot. They were so far out on the main part of the road I was able to loop around behind them to park.

Friends of ours with a Subaru wagon couldn't make it all the way even with chains and driving in our ruts. Two full-size crew-cab 4x4 pickups then arrived at the parking lot, making it without chains or snow tires only because I'd broken trail. One truck almost slid into the Audi trying to turn around. The other truck got stuck in the ditch like a huge beached whale. They didn't have chains or shovels, and set about trying to dig it out using snowshoes. Which might have taken a day or two. I had a towstrap and pulled them out (with a Suzuki Grand Vitara weighing less than half the pickup).

All these other vehicles parked parallel to the road so they'd have an easy time getting going again, without putting chains on. Such parking severely limits the amount of spaces available. I can see why Cavecan gets really tired of the way people use this road.

On the way down, the ruts were wider but we drove in the untracked snow anyway.

We were pleased to see that some of the people there on snowshoes made an effort to stay off the ski trail.

As for the snow conditions, they were just excellent. On Sunday we skied up Steele, and had fun breaking trail out the old trail across Gilbert Lake, which we hadn't done for about 10 years.

Sometime late on the 18th, a shallow soft slab avalanche happened in the draw facing NW above the Steele cabin.

Our party of 6 overnight at Edwards, a party of 6 young guys from the Audi at Edwards on Friday night and Steele on Saturday night. Firewood at Edwards is down to about 1 cord.

Great report from weekend on Suncoastcentral wish more people posted info from there trips.

Edwards cabin
Monday, February 27, 2012

It was as good as it gets on Sat. 25th. 2 people ahead of us on our way to Edwards that broke trail to Victors Landing and then we broke trail to just before Edwards cabin when a group from UBC passed us from UBC on there way to Steele. They had lunch at the cabin and went on there way to Steele. We had a great group of 8 at Edwards for the night and skied some of the best snow in the trees up to steele I've ever had. The group that went to Steele must have had the best weekend ever, 18 inches fresh powder and sunshine. Skied back the Gilbert lake trail on sun. which was very enjoyable. Sunshine and Snow, does'nt get much better than that. Thanx to the Snow man, without you we would'nt be able to do this as easy so close to home. You,re the best. P.S. Had a great time with you all on Sat. night.

Here is a post that was on face book from a thursday ski day trip

Thanks to trevor

Had a great day of skiing on Thursday. Snow was light and knee deep at Victor's landing and on Bachelor Ridge. The Snow eater plowed the road on Thursday. 20 cm of new snow is sitting on top of a crust with softer snow underneath. This is making for prime avalanche conditions. Ski with care. We skied the shallower angles because of this.

Asking for your Help

If anyone has GPS tracks for the trails to cabins and can link them to Google earth and post the trails to google earth and share it with us all it would be of great benefit to all. That way we can all have better idea of train etc.

Thanks

Plowed road this morning it was a nightmare Ruts in snow frozen hard even the plow all chained had a hard time just to drive up yet alone plow. If people do not start to chain up and spread there tracks out there is not much point in plowing it at all. If everyone chains up and spreads tracks out it packs down a wide road made of ice.
Please Chain up and spread your tracks out.

Hope some people will post after there trip .
