New Winter Season starting here is some info about the Tet road.
Grey Creek Road Update & Emergency Contacts The Grey Creek Forest Service Road, providing access to Mt. Richardson and Tetrahedron Provincial Parks is open. It has been graded up to the winter parking lot at 9 km and it is presently in very good condition. We would like to advise road users to report any road maintenance issues they see by emailing the details to tetoutdoor@gmail.com. Please report problems such as plugged ditches, failing culverts, small slumps or slides, water running across the road, downed trees etc. More serious issues like major washouts or landslides should be immediately reported to the Ministry of Forests at 604-485-0700 and the SCRD at 604-885-6800. As you are tavelling this road please keep in mind that often simple actions like pulling sticks out of culvert inlets or hand cleaning ditches or cross ditches is all that is needed to prevent a major road washout.
Hopefully we will have someone post a fresh snow report. Snow line seems to start around 2200ft-2500ft on Dakota Ridge they have oner 6 inches at 3300ft.
The Tet club did Airlift firewood it at great exspence so use wood like it cost you $5 a piece. Your cabin fees go to help pay for repairs to cabins, wood airlift, trails upkeep and plowing the road. You can always donate more then $10 a night to help keep the Cabins going. Have a good season. |

Just checked out the road to Tet the rumors of it being Graded must be a joke or they sure did not do much other then Loosed up some rocks on the Quary hill. Watch for sharp rocks on road.
There was about 2 inches of wet snow left at parking lot and Raining this morning +4c
CAUTION 2 NEW WATER BARS AT PARKING LOT UNMARKED these water bars can shock you if driving to fast and fail to see them. Remember to spread your tracks out to pack the whole road evenly wether gravel or snow. The plow will not go up to plow till the road has a hard packed ice layer of compact snow and ice. Chain up and pack the road evenly or the plow will not be able to plow if there are just 2 ruts left in the snow.

Here is a Video of how easy Diamond Back or Alpine chains are to put on same for cars or pick ups. work great for vehickles with limited clearance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN1OzowR4Bs&feature=related
Chain up is easier then trying to find a tow truck. Most Tow trucks will not go up in the snow on logging roads BCAA will not. |

This info was sent to me by a member of Tet Club
I was up to the parking lot at Grey this afternoon. There was one track in front of me in the slush starting at the 6k bridge. The jeep in front of me had to park at the 8 km hill. I managed to break trail to the parking lot in my ranger, but had to be light on the gas as there was a frozen layer of snow that collapsed if you gum booted it. I had difficulty turning around without chains, but managed to make a new fresh track heading down. There was probably 3" fresh at the rock quarry and 5 " at the lot. Underneath the new snow is a layer of dense frozen snow about a foot deep. Outhouse thermometer which I had reset two Mondays ago, read +4 and -9.
Take care, R********* |

Info on road conditions from Tet this was forwarded to me
Sunday Nov 27th the road is crappy - the worst I have seen it in years. rutted, icy, slushy lower down. just not pretty. you can make it up fully chained but the skiing is not great either. This is why it is So important to chain up and spread your tracks out before the Rutts get frozen in. If everyone spreads there tracks out the Road get packed down evenly and will not need to be plower as often. Sometimes the Plow can not even make it up because the ruts from 20-40 4x4s driving in same track has wrecked the road. Get the word out Spread your tracks out or loose road access. CHAIN UP AND SPREAD EM!!!!!!!!!
Please post reports from Tet here or on Facebook or Suncoastcentral.com No Reports No Plowing????

Road plowed 2 inches snow at bridge around 6 at Quary hill and around 1 ft at Lot was -4'c at 10am the road was rutted up people have to learn to spread there tracks out to pack the road down evenly. If it gets to rutted we can not plow it. 4 vehicles up there none with chains on so the slide down hill might be exciting. If you do not have chains on and have to stop for a vehicle coming uphill you will slide as soon as you touch the brakes. Chains take less then 5 mins to put on and give you control.

This info from Tet outdoor club member
About ten of us went up on Saturday and took a sled into Edwards to help bring the wood cut from the stringers at the broken bridge site to the Edwards Cabin over the winter. We neatly stacked the rest of the wood that had been chucked under the cabin from the helicopter wood lift, while some of our party experimented with the sled. Five loads were hauled from the bridge site to the cabin.
We did cross Steele Creek near the old bridge site but had to take skis off and hop on a stone or two. It should soon be frozen and easier. We hope to deal with a new bridge sometime after the snow goes next year.
Please do not forget to pay your cabin fees and remember there is no Govt money used to plow road or care for cabins. You can always donate more then $10 a night. Use firewood carefully as it costs a lot to airlift it in. Only use wood stove for heat not cooking and do not have it cranked up high with doors open. Use firewood wisely it could be a long cold winter and no resupply of wood will be done make it last.

Warmer Temps in the Alpine due to Inversion layers. +13'c at Grouse at noon friday. Warmer temps and direct sun could melt road and trails. If you are going up be prepared for anything snow pack could be very soft and unstable. Road could be soft so even more important to spread out your tracks. The last thing we need is water running down ruts in road making things worse. Trails might be soft and break though where you least expect. Water could be melting from under crossings.
Take sun tan lotion. Have fun take some pics. Snowfall is 1/3 to 1/2 of what it was last year at this time. |

Tet road Current Conditions Friday, December 30, 2011
Road is in good shape, Could use a bit of plowing to knock ruts down. Ice and snow starts, just past quarry, use chains or risk a very expensive tow. One F-350 is off the road and over the bank near parking lot. Please pay your cabin fees. Cabin stewards were up today. They also record vehicle plates, so if you find recent mess let us or parks know. For info on Batchelor cabin and where to pay fees Call me @ 604-885-5899: or LLoyd Mager @ 604-885-2788. It looks like there is afoot and half of snow on trail at the parking lot, and hard. Appears to be snowing up there now, looking out from my place.

Road plowed tried to plow ruts out but road is frozen hard -6'c and high of 0 in last 3 weeks 10 vehicles up there and 4 more on way up for the day. Saw a nut in a 2 wheel drive Van out for Sunday drive spun his way up Quary hill.
The road to the Tet is a back country road and should only be driven with all wheel drive or 4x4s with chains. Have fun

tet road ect. Monday, January 02, 2012
So the road is icey above the 2nd quarry, although there is some crap on the road between the 300 and 400 roads. Use the chains. I did not need them but I did have to put the truck into bull low and actually use the throttle t9o avoid sliding. It was raining as of 1:30 p.m. @ Batchelor cabin. Mixed until parking lot, then rain. As in lots. Lloyd and I did trimming for better vis on summer trail to Batchelor. will put up proper markers soon, waiting for deeper snowpack.Creeks are running fast but not full.Cabin clean: Keep using it you families, this helps keep party animals out. As for the younger crowd, yes come on up, pay your fees and enjoy. but please take out your crap, and please don't run the stove full of wood, with the door wide open cause you're now to warm. Not all of you I know but some. Thanks, Doug House P.S. Boys, I can read the logbook. Have some respect and common sense,Please.

I had a email from a guy that had just been up in the Tet. He figurd he could make it up with out chains. He said as he was going up hill his speed started slowing down and came to a stop then slid backwards down hill going sideways. When he finally came to a stop he got out to put chains on and could not stand up. He said it is very difficult to put chains on while having to hold on to to 4x4. Now think what would have happened if at same time some one was coming downhill while he was chaining up and started sliding down hill while the other guy is chaining up blocking the road.
Yes you can often go up and down the Tet with out chains but what happens when you spin out and block the road. Get Diamond back chains and use them. People are driving up and down on a sheet of ice you can not even walk up. Please stop and check the road surface before heading up any hill with out chains.

Tet Road -2'c at parking lot Lightly snowing Current Conditions Saturday, January 07, 2012
Only 4 vehicles up there. 1 of which is a Idiot in a 2 wheel drive ford station wagon with cable chains on which he spun going up Quary hill. a couple of his cross links are torn and his chains may shred his brake lines on way down. If this guy stays up overnight and it snow heavy, which it can snow more then 1 foot overnight he could be stuck up there.
Only around 2 inches fresh snow on top of ice. PLEASE CHAIN UP AND SPREAD YOUR TRACKS OUT Cross your fingers you are not going up with a 2 wheel drive toboggan coming down hill at you. Check out the important info on Tet clubs website. tetoutdoor.ca

Mt Steele Cabin is booked for Tet outdoor club trip Jan 21st 22nd there are also scouts are going the Edwards on the 14th and a school group going to edwards and Bachelor 16th and 17th check the suncoastcentral.com website for more info. Today in Sechelt it is +10'c so it must be around +4'c up in the hills. Colder weather coming but seems temps go up and down like a yoyo. Any gains in snow might be lost Best to stay off lakes and any water crossings Use extreme caution. Trail maybe frozen on way in and very soft on way out. Be prepared for anything. If you do not have snow shoes or skis you should not be hiking into the Tet. Several people have gone up for day hike when in was frozen and as day warmed up they hard a difficult time coming out.
4x4 and atleast 1 set of chains on front axel is best way to drive the Tet road. If you have no chains on how do you stop when another 4x4 comes other way. Use headlights and slow down speed only gets you in trouble faster.
Please post info about your trip if no one posts info I might think no one is going up and no need to plow the road. |

Looks like both Edwards and Batchlor are full this weekend Group of Scouts going to Edwards and another large group going to Batchlor. Respect others Use firewood as if it cost you $5 piece it costs the Tet club thousands of dollars to airlift wood in. Snow expected soon so road conditions could change fast. 4x4 and chains needed NO 2 WHEEL DRIVES should use the road. Check suncoastcentral.com for info Also new trail map has been posted on Tet clubs website www.tetoutdoor.ca

| Just heard that Tet road in not bad shape. Chains best to use. we were going to go to Dakota this afternoon but bunch of cars in ditch blocking the road. The outdoor shop figured there were 20 or so vehicles blocked from coming down for a while. Hope someone has some recent info. I think they need to have some cabin educate lessons heard some people cancelled there trip because they thought a group of 10 or so guys might not be well behaved with there group with young kids. I know the Tet club has guys going up to check on cabin use to try to stop the rowdy party animals from wrecking it for all. I want to go up on Monday if anyone can post some info. |
