Is anyone aware if the new bridge spans have been placed over the Seymour river upstream from the hatchery and downstream from the dam?
The spans had been sitting on the hatchery access road for a few months and this crossing will provide a great new loop from the Valley Trail over the river to the Spur 4 road.

Great news! I much prefer loops to out-&-backs. Thanks for the heads-up. |

I'm really glad to hear of more trails opening up in my back yard (I live in Lynn Valley)! However, I am having trouble figuring out exactly where in LSCR the bridge is going? Where is Bear Island?

Bear Island is just below the Seymour Dam in the Seymour River. If you ride up the East side of the Seymour River past Spur Bridge the gravel road will eventually end on the East side of the Seymour dam. We would then bushwhack down the slope to the river and wade across to the island then wade across to the west side and ride back on the Trailway. It was always very cold, slippery and sometimes too deep. A bridge is a great idea. |

I was up there this morning: the two bridges are finished but not quite open yet (small gate on each end), since the approach trail on the east side of the river is still under construction.

Yes, I've done the wading option before, and this is much nicer! Too bad you can't just walk across the dam like at Capilano though - this seems like a lot more work than just relocating the fences back a little.
I hadn't been up that way in quite a few years, but it's nice that you can see the lake again now as well...

| Sweet, Bishop made easier! This bridge has been promised for a long, long time-they got the spans from the Coquitlam Watershed about 8 years ago but it's taken a while to move forward on the project due to budget constraints I have heard |

| Yahoo! Public access to dam is verboten. This is next best thing. |

Will there be a decent eastside trail for family types leading to the bridge then? Looking forward to a loop as well. |

Quick update: Apparently the gate on the new bridge is still closed and will remain closed until Metro completes the trail work on the east side of the river. No doubt that work is weather and manpower dependant.

*Pic taken while riding a bike
Bridge still not open. This sign was at the beginning of Seymour East Road which got my hopes up. |
