A group of us from the Burnaby Outdoor Club headed down to Baker for our annual September hiking weekend. I had some unfinished business with High Pass. Last year we hiked Winchester, then continued on to Low Pass, but a very threatening weather system made us decide to leave High Pass for 2011. We started out on a morning of low cloud swirling all around and sporadic drizzle. The Twin Lakes parking area was still a snow bank, so we parked on the road between the lakes.

After skirting around a couple of large, steep snow patches the trail was pretty much clear. Not many views as we continued through the fog.

However the beautiful flowers compensated for the lack of views. Anenomes and glacier lily in bloom in September? Really?

Everyone keeps saying there are no blueberries at Baker this year - not so, it's just that it helps to be under 4 inches tall to spot them.

An interesting rock.

The fog created some cool effects where snow met sky.

It was really foggy as we climbed up the flank of Mount Larrabee.

We shivered through a quick lunch (temperature was 1 celsius) but had time to admire tiny flowers with a dusting of this morning's fresh snow.

As we started our descent the mists suddenly started to part, and partial views emerged.

Could that possibly be the sun trying to come out? Much jubilation and picture taking!

We shouted messages of encouragement to Larrabee, and blew hard, and finally our efforts were rewarded.

Looking behind us at the trail up Larrabee, and ahead at the trail coming from Twin Lakes.

As we descended we could see another rain squall coming up the valley, and also a rainbow. Soon the rain caught us up, but blew over quite quickly.

Back at Twin Lakes ... goal accomplished, somehow starting out in poor weather and then breaking into sun made the day more special.
