Never having been up the Blowdown Creek Forest Service Road before, a friend and I went exploring on August 13th. 10KM up the road from where it starts at Highway 99 near Duffey Lake the road was blocked by avalanche debris.
I may head back there in early September, and I'm wondering if anyone has any recent info about the state of the road blockage. According to someone I spoke to, the government doesn't have any plans to rehabilitate the road.
This thread indicates that it was still blocked as of August 20th/21st.
I was told the avalanche happened last February. Here's my Xterra where the road was blocked:

To the right (looking up the valley) of the road and debris there is a berm, and the easiest way around that side of the debris field is to cross a bit of the debris and walk along the berm to the short bit of road that leads to the deactivated bridge over the creek.
A view from the berm, looking up the avalanche path, showing patches of broken trees, and the blocked road:

We crossed the creek, and found "Boy Dog's House", along with a letter from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations:

We then went back to the truck, and walked across the debris field and up the road a ways. The debris field had up to a metre of snow underneath in places. While we were up the road two motorcycles came up the road, and they didn't have any problem crossing the debris.
From the road, looking down to where the debris blocks the road:

| As of September 8 you can drive through the avalanche debris - at least I did, using my 4WD Xterra in 4HI. I didn't have any problem going through, or coming out later in the day. |
