Hoping to find some semblance of summer a group of teachers headed off to canoe the Bowron Lakes. The first two days only gave us the same crap we have had for the past several months—Rain and cold god damn temperatures. It rained over 500mm’s and the temperature never went above 7C for the first 48 hours. On top of the awful weather we also experienced the worst bugs I have ever seen-A truly Jing beginning to a week long trip.
After those first two days the weather was a mixed bag of sun, rain, thunder, lightning, and some serious wind squalls on some of the lakes we paddled. Even with the crazy weather and bugs I would highly recommend this journey. Being out of contact with the rest of the world for a whole week was a very peaceful and grounding experience. We saw moose, loons, bald eagles, snafflehounds, three American White Pelicans (Flying over Isaac Lake), and had the privilege of hearing a wolf howling away on our last night on the circuit.
I will let some pictures tell the rest of the story of how wicked of a trip we had.
Let the fun begin
The end of a sweet long day paddling Isaac Lake
Heading down the Cariboo
Sweet Mountains (Mt. Ishba?)
Moose in the marsh
Some long needed sunny skies
My first multi-day canoe trip had some epic moments, epic weather, and epic good times. |

Cheers for the report. Looks great. Any more photos?
Literally just beginning the process of hopefully organising this one for September so this whetted my appetite. Been wanting to do it for almost 20 years. Hoping the weather is slightly better than yours (but mostly that the bugs are better). Glad to hear you enjoyed it no matter what. |

| I will post up some more pics soon. The bugs will likely be all gone by September. We did the trip in 7 casual days....It can easily be done in 4-5 days but we wanted to enjoy the scenery. Hopefully by September the sun will appear. |

| Nice report Doug! The Bowron Lakes are a trip that ideally I could do every year. I've done it five times now and it is always a great experience. On one hand it's a pretty tame controlled trip...on another, it's still a genuine physical and possibly epic trip that must be encountered mile by mile! Way to go! |

| Still up there on my list for someday, as my dad did it back in the early 80s. He wasn't one for backcountry experiences but he raved about this trip both for the scenery and for the 20 year old scotch he and his buddy drank on the trip! Nice pics, Dugger! |

Sweet.
Teachers? So I guess you know what you are going to draw for that "welcome back, what did you do?" first assignment.

Great trip report and really timely. Nice pics, a shame about the rain.
^ LOL! I would appear this moose hasn't moved since the last time I was there! :-)
