Starting early paid off today :) Started at the parking lot a about 6:15am. Three other cars there but I had a feeling that starting that early I would pass them which I did after about 20 minutes of hiking. The other car belonged to someone who set up a tent near Elk peak. Made it to the carrin on Thurston in 1:07 (my best time is an hour which I did last year the same day I did Cheam peak). I actually got a bit lost at one point in the trees where there's still some snow (I know it's sad). Made in down in 47 min. There is some snow to walk on for the last 1.5 km. A few flowers are starting to pop up and the bees are out. Lucky I was there early enough that the bugs hadn't really come out in full force :)Ok home for some breakfast and then off for a couple of hours of kayaking :0

Wow! Nothing like a bit of "speed hiking" to get your day going.

Just as an FYI, Thurston's summit is still about 1km east of the cairn...

Well done, nonetheless. I think my "record" time is 1 hour to the first lookout on Elk.

My kind of life except the 6:15 am start time! Good for you for being such a speedy hiker. My best time was 1 hr and 10 from the parking lot to the first lookout.

Where abouts did you go kayaking? I'm into that as well. Fun stuff. Any kayaking pics on the paddling board?

Good pace, did you stop long enough to take in all the good flowers. I was up there too early some weeks ago.

Just around Jericho Beach and English Bay. Didn't post them on Westcoast Paddler though :)
