My plan was to do a scramble but with a high percentage of rain in the forecast, I decided to just do a photo hike. Heart Creek is one of my favorites. It's a short drive and a short pretty hike. I was also on my own, so I figured it would be safer to do a trail with a lot of activity.
I figured I would make a distinction between Lower Heart Creek and Upper Heart Creek. Lower Heart Creek is an interpretive trail and it's where most (if not all) of the climbing routes are. While it's pretty, I think Upper Heart Creek is much more interesting. Upper Heart Creek would start at the top of the first waterfall.
You can get around the gorge both by following a trail to the east or the trail along the cliff base to the west. I prefer the west, as this allows you to get a look at the first waterfall and down into the gorge. The other trail would take you around it.
This time of year the water level is pretty high and had I not worn my waterproof boots, my feel would surely have been wet. There are a couple of creek crossings in order to stay on the trail. One requires a jump over a narrow section that I found somewhat intimidating. Normally it's not a problem, but there was a lot of water and I really didn't want to get wet. More importantly, I didn't want to get my camera wet. :)
There are a couple of interesting places past this point that make for nice photo opportunities. The first is a spring which is always surrounded by vibrant moss. The second is a canyon, which is usually dry every season excluding spring. I have followed the trail past the canyon for a while, but not to the end. One day I'll have to check it out.
Highly recommend this hike as a short day out, especially for kids or photos.

Impressive photos as always. But if you had trouble jumping the creek what are mere mortals to do? |

| Haha. There were two girls ahead of me that made it look easy. I kept hoping they wouldn't turn around and see me hesitating. :) |

Several springs ago I was able to get into the canyon and get some waterfall photos from inside. I was hoping to improve on these, unfortunately there was just too much water in the canyon:

Autumn there is quite pretty. It really allows you to explore the canyon:

And some photos from winter:

love the photos, especially like this one
where you drag the shutter. Do you pack a tripod on these photo trips? |

This is my favourite as well.
In addition to a longer shutter speed, it looks like there may be HDR or some other post processing? |
