After 2 previous investigative ventures into this area, Katie and I made it up to Hanging Lake today. Can't share with you how we got to the bushbowl (which isn't much of a bushbowl this time of year), but I can share info. from there on. : )

An early start from Surrey and we come across 4 deer and 2 bears along the Chilliwack Lake road. If you were parked along the road by the Lindeman/Greendrop trailhead, a big, healthy looking black was checking out your cars. : )
Overcast skies, but we're hoping for clearing skies...doesn't happen though.

Katie likes to check out the air coming through the vents when we enter bush country. : )

In the bushbowl and it is starting to come alive after sitting under so much snow this year.

At the top of the bushbowl, with one last slide path to cross and we are in the trees. : )

In the trees, and it is very steep in here.

Katie looking down at just how steep that was, and we have more of that ahead. : )

A few gullies/slide paths to cross on our way up. Ice axe was useful and comforting to have in hand. : )

Hanging Lake : ) As you can see, not much for views today, but at least we got to see the entire lake, had a great time and now know how to get up there. : )
Raining lightly, so we didn't sit still for long. Knowing full well we will be back under sunny skies. : )

Hanging Creek on the way down.

Some fancy footwork from Katie. : )

Re-entering the bushbowl, and hoping our memory of how to get back down from here is up to snuff. : )

5 hours up, 8 hours round trip. : )

Enjoy : )

the bushbowl looks alot easier this time of year. I assume your access to the bushbowl didnt involve crossing the Chwk River.

Great job John! This is such an intruiging place for me growing up in the CRV though I've not yet been. A must for this summer. It's funny how many recent posts have been about it lol.
Which day were you up that you saw the bear by the Lindeman? We were up there on Wed and I thought I saw fresh signs on the trail near post creek right at the start on our way back. There's certainly a few in the area.

Well done! I was up there late last summer. It's funny looking at almost every photo I've seen of the lake and the common thing seems to be a cloud hanging right in between the lake and the peaks blocking a perfect photo opp.If you get a chance sometime John you should continue on up to Upper Hanging lake for some spectacular views.

likely the easiest/best time to head in, but the lake and surroundings are not thawed..
Bit of a compromise.
Best picture and fishing dates are also the toughest bush times..
Good trip John, a proud scratch off, any list

I'd like to get in there too one day. But why can't you say how you got to the bushbowl?

Only the 4 legged gps knows the way...I just follow her and her nose. At a very high price you could borrow her, but there is no guarantee that she will work for you. : )

Seriously, I can't help you, sorry.

Why don't you strap a gps on your mutt? That would save you from being harrassed by blokes like me the next time you black out and find yourself in the bushbowl below hanging lake with no idea how you got there. Unless you say otherwise, I'll believe troutbreath.

Nice effort. Going by your pictures it seems like a high snow year is good to cross this bush basin. The main gully with snow on the headwall goes easy in snow or without, leading to easy access for Middle Peak.
