Just a heads up, my trainer just sent out a mass email saying that Buntzen Lake is contaminated with Giardia, which has apparently spread to the Port Moody Murray St off leash park. Might be worth keeping your dogs (and kids...and selves) out until it gets / stays hot and dry.

Giardia is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal illness known as giardiasis. Giardia (also known as Giardia intestinalis, Giardia lamblia, or Giardia duodenalis) is found on surfaces or in soil, food, or water that has been contaminated with feces (poop) from infected humans or animals.

So many dogs there that they should call the strain Beagle fever.

Perhaps the outhouses in the back were flooded and flushed?

The dog run at Rocky Point Park is a fenced off enclosure so that wouldn't suprise me.Also as most of you know Buntzen has been floodd since last year. I was up there a few weeks ago and the Doggie Beach was packed like it is most times. Water levels are still high as well.
I wonder what normal levels are like when the lake is low ?

hah, beagle fever.

I don't have the specific source, which is unfortunate. Came to me through my trainer, and also saw it posted on the Modern Dog magazine facebook page. Wish I had something more credible to offer!

My wife's co-worker got a warning email saying the same thing from the company that she uses for dog-walking in Coquitlam. Apparently they'd be informed from a local vet clinic that had seen several cases.

I can't vouch for any specifics beyond that. Seems kind of narrow in focus to be a hoax so I'd expect there's something to it.

well according to the main office at buntzen, there is no giardia outbreak. they apparently test the water often and nthing has been found. so i think this is just a false rumour circulating around. but you can always phone the office yourself and check :)

My bet is that it would be just the dog run at Rocky Point as it is an enclosed space and a tad small at that. " No doggie Out house"
