It's become common for people to ski down the north side of Strachan, especially the big gully from between the two summits. But I've never seen any other tracks down the next lower gully, which descends east from the east end of Strachan meadows. Right now, it's in the best condition I think I've ever seen.

Thanks to the deep snowpack, one can also go through a bit of woods and pop out onto a logging road. It would have been nice to go down the road to the snowline, but I still had to go back up over Strachan. All in all, a fun outing.

Pictures from today:

Looking down the gully, logging road and the east Lion.

Looking up the gully. Another possible route to left of main gully.

Creek draining the flat area below the gully.

Logging road.

North side of Strachan's summit, with cornice. Top end of road.

Cliff band on Strachan's north side.

Another gulley on NE side of Strachan, which may be possible to reach from Strachan's summit.

Tracks back up from Strachan's saddle. Some like to live on the edge.

Nice shots, Steve. Nice local wandering. Been down a couple of those but not all of them

Currently on Google Maps, this area is shown in winter conditions and excellent detail. You can even see lots of ski tracks down the north side of Hollyburn.

What is the consistency of the snow at the moment? I am planning on heading up to Hollyburn / Strachan for sunrise on Sunday and am curious to know.

Sorry, I was away for the weekend. On these clear days, the snow might be icy on top in the morning. Otherwise it's damp/soft to varying depths depending on the weather. Not suitable for powder gangsters. Hope you found it was ok.
