I managed to drag a friend hiking today, so we decided to check out the Evans Valley trail. It is a beautiful walk along the forest and a fun climb up some boulders on the creek bed. Of course, there were no snow caves yet, but we had a wonderful time. I will definitely go back once the snow has melted some more. total trip time was almost 6 hours, including about 1 hour of rest and lunch. Here are some pictures (with descriptions):

Wow the snow has melted out quite a bit since I was there a few weeks ago! The whole approach was covered in a few feet of powder and my hiking partner Reo and I both went waist deep unexpectedly on a few occasions. Thanks for the update, fly gully will probably be a little easier to stomp up!

Evans Valley is in Golden Ears Park. You can access it via the West Canyon Trail to Alder Flats, taking a side trail into the first valley (Evans Valley). If you look at Allouette Mt., that sub peak on the right hand side is Evans Peak.

Hi Jeff, Yes we only found snow a the end of the creek bed. I loved this hike, it was very beautiful. Unfortunately the sun only came out when we were heading back.

BillyGoat, there is a full description on this trail in the trail wiki. That's how I found out about it.

Thanks Jen! I couldn't help but remember you once I got her in the pack and felt the change in my balance with the extra 18 pounds...lol

This is one of my favourite haunts.

Great and wild place so close to civilization.

Thanks Lynn! I may not take her with me next time though! She really slowed us down.

Well done Miriam...your smile in that picture says it all. : ) Hopefully Katie doesn't check out the recent trip reports with dogs being carried in backpacks. Even if she does give me her puppy dog eyes, there is no way she's going in mine. : )

no snowshoes needed spacemonkey. Unless you want to go beyound the area where the snow caves form, like here:
Actually, you might not need it there either, since the snow was very firm and well packed. Maybe crampons and an ice ax if you're going to go up.

thanks Jon! We had a wonderful time! Now, I'm sure Katie wouldn't want to get in the pack like my lazy Lucy...she is too adventurous for that! Maybe they should meet so she can teach Lucy how it's done!

Katie and I haven't hiked since Alpaca, so we are looking for something easier to get back into 'hiking shape'. Thinking about Eaton Lake or Flatiron on Saturday, or maybe even Zupjok/Alpaca Ridge and just go as far as we can towards Alpaca. Welcome to join us if you like. : )

Thanks to your report, Stryder and I went in for a quick recce before the hockey disaster on Monday and I LOVE this trail! Just to walk along a gushing creek in the forest and then to be treated to the views when you emerge. BC Paradise. This will definitely be one of my have-to-do trails every spring. Really felt like I was in a true wilderness area. And definitely going to give Fly's gully a shot some time. Just beckons....

Here's a few more pics for those who'd like to see a bit of what it looks like on a sunny day
