Haven't been out much lately but when I get the chance to get out for even a short Jaunt I gotta do it. Tuesday evening weather looked divine so I saddled up the old hoss and headed for the hills in search of simpler times and a grouse or two. Inspired by Karl's recent "snows of Grouse report" I figured it was time to get Isaac up that hill for the very first time without him falling asleep.
Pack contents:
For me....
-One small point and shoot nikon camera.
-750 ml of water
-bank card and visa
-car keys
-one pair of sunglasses
-one cellphone
For him:
-Two stage four diapers
-One fleece jacket size 2T
-One emergency change of clothes that when on make isaac look startlingly similar to elmo
-One stack of wipes
-One rain cover for infant backpack
-One touque
-One jar of Organic Pureed Squash
-1/4 bag of rice cakes
-two cheese slices cut into thin pieces
-one fruit leather
-one spoon
-one bib
-one cloth
-250 ml of water
Oh and to top it off one extremely giddy, wiggly and talkative baby that weighs in at just shy of 25 pounds.
I remember the glory days of yesteryear when he weighed only 10 pounds, was carried on my front, and would donkey kick me in the junk for at least the first 20 min before he fell asleep.
Combined weight put it at something like 40 pounds.....almost the weight of my overnight bag sans beverages.
Snow starts at something like 900m or so. Firm packed and no concern for a punch through with even my extra weight.
What I'm doing most the time is looking down, Isaac takes in the scenery.
Isaac kicks back at the viewpoint en route.
Ahhhh...those no salt, no sugar rice cakes really hit the spot.
Dad's not out of shape, but it's certainly not as easy as it used to be.
The only somewhat sketchy part is the collapsed parts over the pipe near the top. I tried to stay far away from the edge.
It was somewhere around here that I heard the familiar grunts of Isaac spending another 19 cents by filling his diaper. Gut-check time! Do I stop now and change him on the snow? Or do I push onwards as fast as I safely can and hope he forgives me? I chose the latter....but in retrospect, why the heck are the change tables in the men's washroom at my thigh level?
And that my friends is the story of how Isaac put the BM in BCMC!
Changed and waiting for the skyride down.

Cool trip, Camel.
That snow ledge by the pipes has been getting skinnier over the last few times I have gone up there. It is getting to be quite a hole.

| I did a hike with my son when he was about 2. I had him in one of those back packy things on my back. Then I noticed there was something running down my leg. Yeah it was time for a diaper change about half an hour ago. |
